Its not really a back pack trail just yet. The middle sections are best done on a bike. Its mostly road hiking and stealth camping on private property if you have the nerve for it.

sounds like most of the canoe camping that i do around here so i guesse i wouldn't mind that to much. Back in New York no body really owns the land on the side of rivers, it's pretty much all state or national land, around here it seems that all the land is private property. it kinda grates on my nerves actually.

Sauratown trail
Suggest Sauratown trail, between Hanging Rock SP and Pilot Mt SP. Its 35 miles long. See http://www.sauratowntrails.org/.

From Goldsboro consider Neusiok trail in the Croatan NF, in winter. Also Rogers, South Mts SP, Wilson Creek, Grandfather, Priest. They are closer, relatively, to Goldsboro. But from Goldsboro, everything will be a drive.

Forgot to mention the Frances Marion NF in SC. Also a beach trip/walk on the Cape Lookout or Hatteras Nat Seashore. Not very hilly, different
