I have that tent!!! It's an ornament; right? It hangs on my tree every Christmas along with a bunch of other backpacks and snowshoes and such.

I was going to do cupcakes, but I relented and am doing 3 cakes now-in ivy green.

I know I want something simple and inexpensive. I would consider making them. Frankly, no one except the bride and maybe her mother ever remembers what the invitation looked like, so I don't want or need anything fancy.”

“Ruby, Joe and I got our invites from one of those mail order companys that have ads and catalogue request forms in the bride mags. They were very inexpensive but looked just as nice as the ordered from a store variety. They had tons to choose from and great service. I can't remember the company (it's been ten years!). Ours were real plain jane, just brown type on a cream card.”

“Gosh, I think the one thing I don't have a picture of is the invitiations! Ours are pretty simple too, a white card with a pearl border. My fiance has an aunt in the printing business, and we got our invitations at cost. We were able to get a few upgrades we normally wouldn't have splurged for - like lined inner envelopes and printed return addresses.

The real cost comes in the postage. Watch how many inserts you include, it'll drive the weight up and thus the price to mail. I sent out 130 invites which cost 63 cents a piece, plus 39-cent stamps on the response cards. Ug!

OK, thank-you cards from the showers are on the agenda for today. Ug!

“we had some cool ones that spoofed the old Dick and Jane books...the cover had a boy stick figure and a girl stick figure and said "See Tim" "See Beckie" and then you opened it up and the two stick figures were together and it said "See Tim and Beckie Get Married"”

“Hey Ruby, one day long ago I had a "holy Union", and I made the invites look like Broadway tickets to a show. Everything on there was pertinent info and even had our picture on there. I slapped one in a nice folded piece of stock paper, color schemed of course, and then threw all of that into a cool envelope, and did the calligraphy myself. Cost was less than 50 bucks plus postage. Thank God cause the #&%!$ left after we bought a house together.”

“Also, if you are having a theme, you can relate the invites to that. Like if you are having an outdoor wedding, you could make the invites in the shape of leaves or something like that. Thread a twig or two on the top, tell them to send back the acorn with or without the top indicating their RSVP, etc.”

“our local paper just hand an article about this...there was one couple that sent the invitations in papier-mâché envelopes that had wild flower seeds imbedded in them...you could actually plant the envelope and grow wild flowers...i didn't read the article so i don't know if they made these or bought them”

I got the venue, found the cater (an outdoor park and a dive of a smokehouse), I am finally going dress shopping today, and at least we have rings...but invites...hmmmmm...haven't even started. And our wedding is in 1 1/2 months. Whoopsie! We are cheap beyond belief-but more because we would rather spend money on our remodeling of our house/and paying down the mortage.
Our gift registry is pretty much power tools or gift cards to places like Lowes, Home Depot or Sears.
Not very romantic I know ;-)
But yes, invites are going out this weekend. My RSVP's are email me back or call me ;-)

Heck the invites are worded very casually-something in the thread of "kids and dogs are welcome, swimming at the lake". Considering we are serving ribs...you can tell it isn't all fancy..lol!

“That is what kills me...how Mom's think it's their wedding and all. LMAO! And the "if you don't do this's" and the "You should do this's" and the "I don't like that's"...it can all get very tiring. When my sister got married, my Mom tired her out big time. I then just casually asked my Mom how her weddings were after being married three times...and having never had a wedding with none of them. She shut up then and let my sister do what she wanted to do, and then sulked the rest of the time when she could. Told my Mom if she wanted to plan a wedding to her liking, then she should have had a wedding with at least one of her three hubbies.”

“Lol..all I can say is my view: If they are not offeringto help us with the $$, they get no say in the wedding ;-) My mom cannot afford to help us out (my dad died 3 years ago), and his parents can afford it, but have not offered up a penny. So hence, while we could go into debt, we chose to not ;-) His mom is FULL of helpful hints. She is a nice woman, but is clueless that after telling her many times that we don't want debt, she keeps harping about how we are not being traditional. Shoot, if we were being traditional, we'd blackmail them into paying for it..lol!!
So mostly I smile and tune out. Works!

“K and I went with a one piece foldover invitation that was perforated to create the reply card. No envelopes. Postcard rate on the replies. The local copy shop had some canned designs on their computers and they printed them all up. It was very affordable and actually pretty nice.

We also bought do-it-yourself placecards at OfficeMax and clear printer labels that we printed up and placed on the invites.

If you get any early gift cards, try to use them to buy stamps or thank you cards.

My parents have been great about the wedding, as have G's. They've really let us make all the decisions, and have only offered minimal advice. There's been a few minor bumps in the road, but all in all we've all worked well together! We're quite lucky. :)”

“Jon and I are thinking very simple and casual. An outdoor wedding/reception is a possibility. Another possibility is a barn in the area in an apple orchard. I think I'd like to do a pig roast and then serve the food buffet style. No cake, no flowers except a bouquet for me, no gifts so no registry. We're going to tell people that kids are welcome and to not feel the need to dress up.”

“Yep Ruby, that is us..lol! We are using a local smokehouse to cater-our "venue" is the park in town-we rented one fo teh shelters. It is right on a big lake, next to the swimming dock. My mom, who is disabled can walk to it easily. And it cost a whopping $80 for all day. A certain forum member here is doing the actual wedding-yes, that forum member is marrying us ;-) We are most likely doing the ceremony in the gardens next to the park-which is free.
Decorating is minimal too...maybe I'll train some squirrells to dance..lol!
Oh yeah, and the cakes? I am doing them via Sams Club. Including the cake stand I decorated the cake will be under $75 total.

I have always hated stuffy weddings full of people who you have no idea who they are. It will be my small family, the ones from Synch's side that can fly out, and friends. Tons of friends - hiking and coworker friends. And knowing the slobs I hike with, I'll be lucky if they show up in anything more formal than hiking pants-cause there are tons of trails next to the park! Woo-hoo!

I found my dress this morning :-D It is somewhat traditional-and very pretty. And I scored it for $88 at Macy's. Yes, $88! Oh yeah! Ms. Frugal scored!”

“I'm pretty excited. The other day I found out that there is an accomplished classical guitarist in the area. This guy is so good that while walking around I thought someone was playing a John Williams CD. Then I looked up and realized this guy was playing live. I am hiring him to play for our wedding. He'll play for the ceremony and during cocktail hour and dinner. It's so nice that we can avoid canned music for all that.”

“Sweet ruby thats pretty cool to have live music like that. We had a DJ for the reception but a String quartet for the ceremony. They weren't all that great (we didn't get to hear them untill the day of the wedding) but it was still nicer than a boom box / sound system.”

“One of my backpacking buddies was married to a grad student working on her MS in music at UT in Knoxville.
Thru her, we were able to hire a string quartet of great musicians from that grad school for very little money.

The wedding was nice, the marriage crappy. LOL”

We have a small trunk Joe's sister made us for a wedding gift. I keep our unity candles and an invitation, a few favors, the wedding video and our guest book in there. Abby dug through it today and we ended up watching the video. She couldn't believe how much hair her dad had. It was fun.
