The good thing about wearing scrubs when you get pulled over for doing 85 in a 55 though is that the cops tend to look the other way and let you off lightly :D I KNEW I shoulda bought a radar detector for this vehicle too.

Radar detectors generally don't do any good because the cops generally leave them off right up until they use it on you.

Please drive responsibly. Speeding isn't cool. Speeding kills 1,000 Americans every month.

i'm just pulling this out of my @ss here, but i remember seeing a study that said something like 70%-75% of all drivers speed...it's pretty common

our "loop", 465 is a great example...the limit is 55 but if you go 55 you'll be the only one

oh no, is this thread going fuego

“You know I'm right. (don't worry - it's our little secret)

Tell me, now be honest!!!

Did you grow up loving care-bears and unicorns?

Come on, be honest! You don't want to dishonor the tree goddess.

Tell us the truth - Do you have those rainbow colored bears dancing in your car window?

The truth!

Usually, speed enforcement is based on the 85th percentile speed, whether measured or estimated. In California, it's a legal requirement for radar speed enforcement that you have to be going faster than that speed, based on a legitimate speed survey conducted within (I think) 5 years. Also, cops can tail you and, theoretically, ticket you for going 1 mph over the posted speed limit, but most will have an idea of what the 85th percentile speed is, and will only go after that fastest 15%.

It is true that many many many collisions are caused by people who are simply driving too fast. At a minimum, please drive at the posted speed limit when you are in a neighborhood. Even when the speed limit is 25, the likelihood of being able to stop in time when you're going 25 if a kid runs out in front of you is slim. If you're going faster (say, 35), it is very likely you will kill someone if you hit them, which you will if they run out in front of you.

i agree bowlder...i NEVER speed in neighborhoods...i think speed effects more of the severity of the crash and not as much as causing the crash...it's following distance and being alert that counts

SC, where were you going 85 in a 55 that a Gary cop got you? I thought it was state troopers who patrol the tollway.

You get into an accident when you're doing 85 mph and somebody dies, you'll probably talking jail/prison.
