No-frills line does Midwest on the cheap

Bus firm gets many to Chicago for less than $30, some for $1

Fellow travelers, they arrived at the Downtown sidewalk in ones and twos: a student, an architect, a social worker, a married couple.

There was nothing to greet them: no majestic terminal, no blue-suited conductors, not even a ticket counter. Yet, these travelers promptly showed up to this designated spot when the schedule said they should -- lured by a new online-based company promising bus fares as low as $1 to cities throughout the Midwest.
"You can't really beat the fares," said 25-year-old Trisha Logan, preparing to return to Chicago after spending a recent weekend with her parents in Indianapolis.
Logan paid all of $2.50 for her roundtrip ticket.
Meet Megabus, a line headquartered in the United Kingdom that began service here last month and hopes to shake up the industry by applying a discount-airline approach to intercity bus travel.

I see these busses all the time from the train platform every morning on the tollway. It is $1.50 to come down to you Thrifty.

come on down, the water's fine

i was actually thinking this could have some potential for TT trips for people in your area...i know it's been a challenge sometimes for people up there to make it down...someone from the indy area is always at one of the area trips, so they could just pick someone else up

Pink, I found fares for $23 for two people one-way to Chicago!

Has anyone traveled on this bus line? Anyone with personal experience?

Yeah, but then you gotta ride next to the bum that got enough quarters on the Randolph Street Bridge to catch a ride down to Indy for the weekend.

...not to say I am looking down on the bum. I can smell worse than that after an extended and sweaty weekend hiking.

The tickets are cheaper for the first people to book a particular trip. The fuller the bus is, the more expensive the ticket.

I'm thinking about taking the megabus when we go up to Minnesota in July/August. It is too early yet to book it. But if I'm quick, I can get all of us RT tickets for less than $10 total. Might be worth it.

Need to get eyes checked. Looked at the title and saw "Cow Lost in the Midwest."
