“It's about time this comes up. Attorney General Says Reporters Can Be Prosecuted for Publishing Classified Leakshttp://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,196361,00.html The Constitution doesn't give reporters the right to break laws the rest of us are subject to.” 6:53:41 AM 5/25/06 “If you gave a group of reporters information that they were about to surroung bin Laden's location to try to capture him, there would be a frenzy amoung the reports to phone bin Laden to ask him how he feels about his impending capture. When they put their own cheap advancement ahead of the security and safety of every citizen in the U.S., they should be prosecuted.” 7:13:19 AM 5/25/06 “They have his phone number - wow - I guess the NSA wire-tapping does work!” 7:16:00 AM 5/25/06 “Silly Y2, don’t you know that the liberal media supports Bin Laden. Of course they have his phone number.” 7:18:09 AM 5/25/06 “except Liz right!!!! (ive got your back girl)” 7:19:51 AM 5/25/06 “I was trying to guess how long one of the less intelligent liberals on here would get embarrased over the whole "protecting the right to destroy America" thing, and try to divert our attention from the subject at hand. I was guessing 20 posts. I was wrong by a factor of 10.” 7:20:51 AM 5/25/06 “It'll be a cold day in Guantanamo when this buncha monkeys(Dubya and Friends) surrounds Bin Laden anywhere.” 7:21:15 AM 5/25/06 “Is someone embarrassed? Chasing leakers is a diversion from more meaningful issues.” 7:24:42 AM 5/25/06 “I was trying to guess how long one of the less intelligent liberals on here would get embarrased over the whole "protecting the right to destroy America" thing, and try to divert our attention from the subject at hand. I was guessing 20 posts. I was wrong by a factor of 10.” Sarge 8:20:51 AM 5/25/0 DING DING DING we have our first winner with ONE post! congradulations.” 7:27:50 AM 5/25/06 “In World War II a few weeks before D-Day (the Invasion of Normandy) The names Utah and Omaha and a couple of other secret terms came out in a Crossword puzzle in England. Then rumors started about an upcoming invasion. General Eisenhower called ALL the heads of the media to a secret meeting. There he outlined What would happen, When it would happen and what it meant. Then he closed by asking the people to quash any reports since even ONE word may mean the deaths of hundreds of our young men. Well there was not leak. Today...LOL CNN WOULD BE STANDING ON THE NORMANDY CLIFFS with some talking head saying, "In just a few days Thousands of our Troops will invade HERE RIGHT HERE on what will be known as Omaha Beach. We will be invading a country that NEVER attacked us, a country in fact that has its OWN people fighting with us." My attitude, if you are a reporter and an American Citizen and you release secrets, it is Treason simple and easy. Jack Anderson, should have been Broken on the Wheel for what he did in the 1970's. If you are a foriegn reporter, and you leak something, THERE is 2/3 rds of the earth covered with water, drop em from a C-130 at 15,000 over the ocean..the fish will do the rest.” 7:27:54 AM 5/25/06 “mapleleaf - that doesn't even make sense. Perhaps politics ain't your thing.” 7:32:09 AM 5/25/06 “sarge your just to exusting to talk to sometimes. stick to the topic for once!” 7:34:19 AM 5/25/06 “On a serious note - it depends on the individual issue. So XL - how do you rate the revealing of invasion plans against, say rendition of suspects to certain countries for torture?” 7:34:58 AM 5/25/06 “y2 - Do 2 wrongs make a right?” 7:35:57 AM 5/25/06 “there's aren't two wrongs in the reporting of the torture incidents. What about the incidents at Iraqi prisons?” 7:38:16 AM 5/25/06 “On a serious note - it depends on the individual issue. No, it doesn't. Classified information is classified for a number of reasons. There is no way that a reporter, who doesn't have the clearance, would know WHY something is classified. No matter how bad it may look, there is another side to every story. The reporter might think he's doing something valiant, but has no idea. Have you ever watched a mystery or sat on a jury? When one side gives their story, it seems obvious what is going on. But just 10 minutes of listening to the REST of the story can completely change your opinion and view of the situation. There is no excuse for breaking the law in this situation.” 7:38:44 AM 5/25/06 “there's aren't two wrongs in the reporting of the torture incidents. What about the incidents at Iraqi prisons? That wasn't the question. You are trying to justify a wrong by saying there are worse things one could do. Two wrongs don't make a right.” 7:40:03 AM 5/25/06 ““y2 - Do 2 wrongs make a right?” Sarge 7:35:57 AM 5/25/06 You still don't know?? If you gotta ask, you have flunked.” 7:40:32 AM 5/25/06 “So Sarge - you're advocating that a Government can do ANYTHING it likes? I thought you were all about freedom?” 7:45:19 AM 5/25/06 “I was going to mention the Somalia beach landings by marines being met by hordes of media, but they were invited their by the pentagon. I was in the military, my father served in two wars as well as my uncles, and I fully support our military, but the top brass are all a bunch of political hacks who got their positions mostly by kissing ass. While they are #&%!$ing from one side of their mouth about the media releasing classified information they are whispering secrets out the the other side trying to manipulate the media into doing things they want them to do.” 7:47:30 AM 5/25/06 ““So Sarge - you're advocating that a Government can do ANYTHING it likes? I thought you were all about freedom?" Uh, how you got that from what I said is beyond me.” 7:49:34 AM 5/25/06 “Y2, sorry but I have absolutely NO sympathy for terrorist who break every law (EVERY CONVENTION) and then demand their rights. My attitude is the same as my Uncle's was when he got off Guadacanal. "These people won't respect the law so I don't have to either." In a couple of instances he told me of hammering .30cal shell casings into Japanese Soldiers kneecaps to get them to confess. Heck he told a story on Iwo of finding two Americans who had been tortured in a bunker. The next day they caught three Japanese soldiers. One had the watch of one of the Marines that had been found dead. From what he said it took 5 hours for the Japanese Soldier to die. But if the enemy is using a tactic I say we include it in our play book. I realize that many people see this whole thing as a (it isn't my house) but IT COULD BE. If little achmed the goat humper gets his feelings hurt, or can't kill himself (NOTE THEY COME OUT OF CLUB GITMO WITH MORE WEIGHT AND NOT WANTING TO LEAVE) boo hoo. If the UN doesn't like it they can pack their freaking bags and hit the trail.” 7:55:16 AM 5/25/06 “You nailed it, Hyway. That beach landing was a national embarrassment. At the time I couldn't help but wonder if they did more than one take..........camera.........ACTION!!!!” 7:57:17 AM 5/25/06 “If it is illegal for a private citizen to do this then it should be illegal for a reporter. If they are not breaking the law then freedom of the press must stand.” 8:00:38 AM 5/25/06 “"Attorney General Says Reporters Can Be Prosecuted for Publishing Classified Leaks" wouldn't it make more sense to prosecute the people who leaked it to the reporters in the first place? The people who leak it to the reporters know that it will be published which is why they leaked it to start with. As the saying goes don't shoot the messenger” 8:02:31 AM 5/25/06 “wouldn't it make more sense to prosecute the people who leaked it to the reporters in the first place? It would make more sense to do both. I strongly advocating shooting both the messenger, and the leaker.” 8:03:48 AM 5/25/06 “I think there is a huge issue of what is actually classified.” 8:05:32 AM 5/25/06 “I say they both need to be prosecuted. I am so sick of "leaks" both in politics and the military. If you have something to say, step up and say it or STFU.” 8:06:57 AM 5/25/06 “LOL, I would have loved for there to be a "Pre Invasion Softening of the Beachhead" in Somalia. LOL< can you see Bland Blather and the rest of the Bright lights crowd standing there and 5" and 8" rounds start raining in...LOLLOLLOL” 8:09:50 AM 5/25/06 “PS - Let's also be clear that by definition, the President cannot "leak" classified information, nor can anybody he has told to do so.” 8:13:15 AM 5/25/06 “XL, I understand the sentiment, but you do know that they were invited and encouraged to be there. Some crews were even given exact locations of where the marines would come ashore so they could set up their cameras in the best location. You can't blame the media for what happened on that beach.” 8:17:49 AM 5/25/06 “Hyway, there is such a thing as responsibility. Additionally I think whoever came up with that cluster to let the media know...The Aleutians always need permenant personnel. I have a very good friend who is a reporter. After one particularly gruesome incident, she called. She had some disturbing but poigniant photos of the operation unfolding. She had every right to show them. But she didn't want to screw something up by exposing them. We went through them, she destroyed the ones I asked her to. And as a result she gets leads on a lot of stuff. I have another reporter who lives to make us look bad. To this day he can stand with the citizenry on the OUTSIDE of the barrier tape. He gets NOTHING from me in the way of information. LOL he had to go to the other reporters to get what he needs. I have not seen him lately so he may have moved on.” 8:24:39 AM 5/25/06 “Hang em High!!!!! ;-) (except lizsbaby!!!!) LOL” 8:26:58 AM 5/25/06
