My attitude, if you are a reporter and an American Citizen and you release secrets, it is Treason simple and easy. Jack Anderson, should have been Broken on the Wheel for what he did in the 1970's.

“On a serious note - it depends on the individual issue.

No, it doesn't. Classified information is classified for a number of reasons. There is no way that a reporter, who doesn't have the clearance, would know WHY something is classified. No matter how bad it may look, there is another side to every story. The reporter might think he's doing something valiant, but has no idea. Have you ever watched a mystery or sat on a jury? When one side gives their story, it seems obvious what is going on. But just 10 minutes of listening to the REST of the story can completely change your opinion and view of the situation. There is no excuse for breaking the law in this situation.”

“I was going to mention the Somalia beach landings by marines being met by hordes of media, but they were invited their by the pentagon. I was in the military, my father served in two wars as well as my uncles, and I fully support our military, but the top brass are all a bunch of political hacks who got their positions mostly by kissing ass. While they are #&%!$ing from one side of their mouth about the media releasing classified information they are whispering secrets out the the other side trying to manipulate the media into doing things they want them to do.”

In a couple of instances he told me of hammering .30cal shell casings into Japanese Soldiers kneecaps to get them to confess. Heck he told a story on Iwo of finding two Americans who had been tortured in a bunker. The next day they caught three Japanese soldiers. One had the watch of one of the Marines that had been found dead.
From what he said it took 5 hours for the Japanese Soldier to die. But if the enemy is using a tactic I say we include it in our play book.

I realize that many people see this whole thing as a (it isn't my house) but IT COULD BE. If little achmed the goat humper gets his feelings hurt, or can't kill himself (NOTE THEY COME OUT OF CLUB GITMO WITH MORE WEIGHT AND NOT WANTING TO LEAVE) boo hoo. If the UN doesn't like it they can pack their freaking bags and hit the trail.”

wouldn't it make more sense to prosecute the people who leaked it to the reporters in the first place? The people who leak it to the reporters know that it will be published which is why they leaked it to start with. As the saying goes don't shoot the messenger”

I have a very good friend who is a reporter.After one particularly gruesome incident, she called. She had some disturbing but poigniant photos of the operation unfolding. She had every right to show them. But she didn't want to screw something up by exposing them.

We went through them, she destroyed the ones I asked her to. And as a result she gets leads on a lot of stuff. I have another reporter who lives to make us look bad. To this day he can stand with the citizenry on the OUTSIDE of the barrier tape. He gets NOTHING from me in the way of information. LOL he had to go to the other reporters to get what he needs. I have not seen him lately so he may have moved on.”
