“You should definately take a wind jacket from what I know of the mountains there. You must also take your sled as you know for sure that there will not be any snow on the trail

Yeah, and the trailheads are 10ers...

The trails can accomodate horses for crying out loud; they're relative superhighways. They rise steadily up creek drainages, and switchback at the slightest sign of AT type ascents. After crossing a pass, they continue down another drainage at predictably easy gradiants. Granted, the final push up a pass can be a sled slammer, but you've been there times a'plenty.

Get acclimatized and you'll be fine.

From Montrose we visit Colo National Monument, Grand Mesa, Ouray, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. The San Jauns are always beckoning for a backpack, but we never have time to get up there.”
