Hey gang...sorry been all over the place lately. Spent the first weekend in June in Washington DC then the whole remainder of the week digging out fires and filing reports.

I am looking to buy a new vehicle. Figured I really don't use the 4 WD of my jeep all that much. I have it narrowed down to either the Nissan Frontier 4x2 (crew cab) or the Toyota Tacoma 4X2 (Crew cab) they are so close it is hard to figure out. Any ideas, opinions?

I have had the Nissan Titan and now have a Nissan 4WD Frontier, Most horse power than any mid size truck and the 6,500lbs towing capacity cannot be matched, not even close within it's class.

They say toyota will hold there trade in value better than any other truck but I don't believe it. Car Salesman and insurance salesman are rip off artist, it all lays upon your knowledge and firm sound judgement when buying a vehicle and letting the salesman know you have done your home work by actually doing it.

My Opinion of course so who cares.

LOL! My Nissan was made in Mexico. Therefore I'm contributing to the Mexican economy and job market thereby giving Mexicans an incentive to not enter our country illegally and destroying us from within. God Bless America!

Now, was it wrong to root for Iran today??? When it comes to Soccer/Football, Mexico can Kiss My Ass!

Just checked some market capitalization figures for three co.s.

General motors $14.34 bil
Harley davidsen $13.18 bil
Toyota motors $163.54 bil

Twenty years ago would you have predicted that HDI would be that close to GM?

I own a Nissan truck, it's pretty much indestructible.

But who the hell buys a truck without 4wd?

I've owned 2 trucks without 4wd. An '87 Nissan and a '90 GMC. Getting out of my drive way after a snow storm were the only times I wished I had 4wd and most the time 300lbs of sand in the back of the truck was sufficient to get out and on the road.

4wd just gets you further off the road before you get stuck.

I'm cheap. I always go for the best deal. I've owned many Nissans. My wife loved her Maxima. Better prices then Toyota's but they're better trucks.

I drive a Hyundai & love it. Great deal at almost 1/3 off sticker, when I went looking for another wrangler. Selling my '95 this summer. Went down to Jersey City (long ride) to get $6500 off local prices for my wife's 2005 Xterra. I use her old 2000 Xterra to plow snow with & haul lumber. Spare vehicle.

I like 2 wheel drive pickups. Need snow chains (cables are better) around here in the winter mountains. Often thought about a "air-locker" for the rear end for 2 wheel drive. That makes BOTH rear wheels, drive wheels. Almost the same as 4wd which only has 1 front drive wheel & 1 rear drive wheel.

Just bought a Toyota Tacoma Access Cab 2WD myself. Looked at the Nissan Frontier, too, but thought the Toyota was better built; some of the interior stuff on the Frontier looked kind of wimpy and easy to break, even with normal use.

I bought the Access Cab instead of the Crew Cab because the Access cab comes with 2 xtra doors that allow easy access to the rear area. Also, the interior on the new Tacomas are a LOT bigger than the old ones, and (I thought) bigger than the Frontier.
Also didn't get the 4WD for the same reasons that lumberzac mentions above.

BTW: If you're really concerned about the "Made in USA" thing, the Tacomas are still made in the USA (Fremont, CA, near San Francisco).

AND REMEMBER TO SHOP ONLINE AMONG ALL THE DEALERS IN YOUR AREA! Research the model and option packages you want on line, then send individual requests to all the web contacts at the dealers in your area. Some are a joke ("come in and we can find you a deal") while others will get you what you want and set everything up over the internet. I only spent 1 hour at the dealership, mainly to deal over my trade-in, and figured I saved about $800 over some of the other dealers; pretty cool.

Sorry had to go dig out a fire, well the tacoma I am considering was built in Baja....I agree with the "jobs to keep em there" line.

Toyotas do hold their value better but I don't buy a car for it to hold it's value, I buy it to drive.

I have had 5 Toyota's. 3 4-Runners and 2 Camry's for my wife. The 4-Runner I have now has 192000 miles and is just getting broke in. All I have done to it is put gas and oil and new shocks on it. They are hard to beat.

Our entire company fleet is Toyota. We get great service out of the trucks. While we are fanatic about service records, we plan on getting about 200,000 miles on every vehicle we bring into the fleet.

I have had great service and ride from my Camry, but due to operational needs, I am giving it up this week to get a Pre Runner.

At the moment I am shopping for a new truck.Car dealers suck. I am looking to get a nissan frontier 4 wheel, crew cab with a 6 foot box- I hate those short boxes on most crew cabs.nissan does make the frontier with the long box but they seem to be somewhat hard to findMy 87 s-10 has about had it. I am mostly saving it for camping trips but it may not make it through the summer.

Depends on the dealership, I got my Pathfinder from a Nissan dealership and got a great deal and great service.

Looked at the Pathfinder and the Tacoma...got the Tacoma Crew Cab, 4X2 since I have a Jeep if I need 4WD.
Mainly I got the Toyota because the dealer in Augusta in Good (Taylor) and the Nissan dealer was kinda flighty in sales. Got a good deal.

My preference leans toward Nissan all the way around. I've got a Toyota 4-Runner with 300,000 miles on it, and it's currently having the engine rebuilt for the second time. It was an okay vehicle, but very heavy. I have to make a reservation to pass. I also have a Nissan Murano AWD. Very nice vehicle, better gas mileage (22 mpg)than the 4-Runner, and MUCH more passing power. Oh, and my Nissan Sentra is a great little runabout that my daughter uses. She gets 35 mpg in it. I've had Sentra's, Altima's and now the Murano and I've never had a bit of trouble with any of them. I personally drive a GMC extended cab 4X4 with a topper on it. As for buying American, my GMC was built in Canada. I think many Toyota's are built in Tennessee?

Happy shopping.
