"Dateline" Perverts

“Anyone been watching those "Dateline" shows where they feature perverts they find online by using decoys?

Really, it's amazing. Every guy turns up with the same phrases when caught:

1. I only came here, because the kid sounded like they needed a friend.

2. It was a mistake and I'll never do it again.

3. This was my first time.

I enjoyed the guy that showed up and got naked before he came in the house, but was very upset by his wanting the young teen to use her cat as part of his......."whatever" he wanted to do.

One guy was bold enough or mentally ill enough to state that he had just moved to the state he was in so he didn't really have time to find an underage person to have sex with yet, but he had done so where he used to live, got caught and was released for some reason, but they still got him for posting teen internet porn and he said this all with no provocation.”

“I have a cop friend that heads up a white collar and internet crimes division. Usually his cop stories are great to hear until he mentions some of the internet sickos they catch. Renting and selling kids is shockingly common. His wife is an engineer and we wind up at the same conferences. This is how I know him. Last summer at the conf I was taking my son to the restroom and he ran ahead. The policeman friend I mentioned was walking to the can at the same time. I commented how my son liked to run ahead and thought he was old enough to go by his-self but I disagreed. He just had this look on his face and said it would be many, many years before he was old enough and then said something like, "you don't even want to know." It's a shame that good folks like him have to catch oxygen thieves like those guys.”

“I say once they catch them, they should throw them in the general population at prison.

They will get all the sex they want there.”

“dayhiker, there are some things that are so strange that normal people cannot even fathom. You'd have to travel in those circles or be a law inforcement person to see what really goes on.

There is a site, I forget the url to it, but I think there may be more than one where you can pull up perverts in your area, where they live and their rating as far as what type of predator they are, like a rapist or molester, etc. I looked up my area one day and was shocked to see all of the hits around my area for perverts.

The site gives you info on how likely they are to reoffend, etc., but once a pervert, rapist, etc. always a pervert, rapist. I just don't understand why these people cannot be put somewhere where they can't hurt anyone since there is apparently no treatment for this problem.

I saw on tv that one judge sentenced 3 rapist to either serving a very long prison sentence or getting castrated. They chose castration, but ultimately, the judge was not allowed to offer castration as an option, so they got jail time.

These people can't help themselves and some that are "thinking" people even want to be kept away from hurting kids, or anybody, but society let's them go free.”

“Our local TV station did its own sting operation with the local police and caught some creeps like on the Dateline program. Then they caught a guy taking pictures of young boys in a bathroom through a hole he carved into a stall at a Little League stadium. It's scary how many sickos are out there.

“I haven't seen these shows and they sound like weird entertainment - but if they catch a few of these creeps and scare off some more, more power to them.

“chili, from what I've learned from people that work in prisons is that all types of criminals are assessed to see where they should go so that they are not harmed in prison (to an extent). Sex offenders are with sex offenders. Cops and other law enforcement people are kept in solitary until they can't take it anymore and sign away their life to go into general population, but still, the prison puts them in with lighter offenders so they don't get killed.

I laughed my ass off when John Gotti got beat up in jail, but that's a whole other story.

We all wish jail was bad for the criminals but it's not for some of them who are happy to get 3 square meals a day and a daily routine. They're eating fresh baked cookies from the prison's kitchen. If you lived the high life before prison, then you're not as happy to be there, but then again, money makes you a bit more comfy in jail. Then they get all the perks, a library, tv, free medical care, visits, mail, commissary goods, etc. I'm not sure if some or all prisons did away with them having weights. Then of course it depends if you are in a state prison or a federal one.”

“A science teacher at my school got busted for having camera's set up in the classroom, and also for having students come and work at his home in his garden area, and then offering to let them shower afterwards while he went to the store or something, and supposedly there where camera's in there too. He got caught because the police raided his house because his son was slanging a little bit here and there, and I guess the cops searched his computer which they confiscated and found kiddy porn.

It's weird. I had him for Physical Science, and he was always a very nice guy.. But just a little bit off. I suppose I'm not surprised that he was a Pedo, because in some ways he fits the mold. He's out on 40,000 dollar bail (God knows how on a teachers salary), and sometimes I see him staggering around drunk in town in the middle of the night looking groedy as hell.

“I saw one of those shows on MSNBC about what life is like in prison and it seemed terrible. They were crammed in there like sardines for how small the cell was. I'm not sure what perks could make life like that seem nice.”

“pedxing, yeah, it is strange entertainment to watch those Dateline shows, but it appears they have become quite popular if they keep doing them over and over. I am at the point where I've seen enough, but if I had a child, I may want to keep watching to stay a step ahead of the perverts.

Hard Candy looks interesting and I wanted to see it, but I don't think my husband would have like the gore involved especially since it may involve.....the girl being harsh on the man's genitals as a form of punishment. I can only guess that is what the "gore" in the movie is about. It makes some men squeamish to see that even if the guy deserves what he gets.”

“bear, I think it's similar to how they catch "johns" on "Cops". The lure is there and they take the bait. I don't think the lure for the perverts offers sex so it's not entrapment, but there is sexual talk and provocative online names use to lure the predators out. You have to do something to get them to show themselves. They are pretty brazen too!

Most will tell the host of the show that they have seen Dateline and they still took a chance at showing up at some strange house w/an underage kid. One guy showed up with his small son who must have been maybe 4 years old. I think he showed up to be with an underage boy.”

“I've seen it and agree with lipstick hiker. This isn't entrapment. These guys go online looking for kids, they bring up sex, they ask for a meeting, and the kicker is - they willingly drive out to a location with the intent of having sex w/ a child. Nobody forced them to get in the car and drive out there. These guys aren't doing anything they didn't set out to do.”

“It's only entrapment if you can show you wouldn't have done the thing without the lure. I am not saying this well, but if you are lured into doing something you wouldn't normally even contemplate doing then that's entrapment. I think that's how it works.”

They use decoys who say they are of varying ages online, so I think some are definitely pedophiles. And most seem to have past records of similar crimes.

I think the thing that Dateline likes to do is show how these people seem like every day people to us, though they may bag more creepy looking people but just show the more decent looking ones on tv. They've had a rabbi and a guy in law enforcement where they were authority figures that a teen may go to if they were in trouble, so that's really bad and that's what I think they want to show also. The devil takes all forms!!!!”

“OK, I don't think you're quite on the mark calling such shows "entertainment." They're news shows. If you're calling it entertainment, you are strangely entertained.

A school in the area will bring in an expert on online predators in the fall. The show given during the evening was going to be billed for adults only. I talked to a friend who works at a family resource center. She had seen the presentation elsewhere. The guy gets on a computer live, which is hooked up to a projector. He portrays a teen. Within like 4 minutes, someone hit on him. And when the request came if he would like to look at the unknown/apparent predator's webcam, holy sheeyat! There was a #&%!$ as large as the whole screen.

My friend said people just screamed! lol, it's funny... but it's NOT. And that's the kinda crap going on. I say more power to trying to bust the sleaze.

I don't know that parents believe this goes on. Perhaps if it's shown over and over again (what some of you think of an "entertainment"), maybe it will finally get through to some thick-skulled parent.”

“I normally don't defend NBC news programs - but this is getting the word out about the sleazy people who do this, so I'm all for it.

“My wife is a psychologist. Although she see has a wide range of clients, she predominantly deals with children. She is one nervous lady when it comes to our own kids dealings with the public. She gets nervous over little things like them walking over to their friends house. Although I don't share her nervousness, I understand why she feels that way. She has heard some god aweful stories.”

I have no love lost between me and the pedo's, but I'm still not "glad" to see them being locked away. Especially seeing as the relapse rates, for lack of a better term, for child molestors is extremely high.

Big Star, no one is getting off on watching these shows. It's eye opening to many people with children at home that are latch key kids and so on. Maybe there is some glee in seeing someone go to jail even if they are mentally ill or just seeing them taken off the street is releaving to some folks. People watch the show for all different reasons. Being ill is also no excuse for ones poor or criminal behavior. You still need to pay the piper.”

“On one Dateline program a psychiatrist was explaining that the drive is so strong in these men that prey on children that they can't stop. Even though they come from all walks of life, he explained that they don't wake up in the morning an say "Gee, I think I'll go out and destroy my life today by preying on kids." He said they don't reason that way and just act on the drive without thinking of anything else. That's kind of scary that their minds work that way since you would have to think that putting them in jail wouldn't do anything for them and when they get out they'll be right back to doing it again. On the other hand being in jail prevents them from committing the act again at least until their time is up.”

“So far jail time doesn't seem to work and mental rehab programs probably aren't available to handle so many pervs so you have a point there.”
