Bear causes accident that kills motorcyclist
June 14, 2006
Associated Press GRANBY, Conn. -- A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning in an accident caused by a black bear who wandered onto Route 20, town police said.

Francis Osden, 56, of Barkhamsted, died in the crash, which happened just before 8 a.m. as a father and his two children were waiting at a nearby bus stop. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

Authorities said a car traveling in front of Osden hit the bear, which ran off into the woods and was not found. Osden was trying to avoid that collision and crashed, police said. The driver of the car was not injured.

It was the second incident involving a bear on state roads Tuesday. State police said a dead bear found on Interstate 91 in Middletown was apparently hit by a car.

So... where was Jack the Cat???

People are seeing bears here in SE Minnesota. One last weekend in Whitewater State Park, on trails I'd hiked on a week earlier.

And on TV, another shown in the 'burbs of Rochester. A woman was taping it in her backyard and totally freaking out. And what did the DNR say? Oh those tricky DNR people, who never admit to anything, but HAD TO this time... They said they figured the bear had lived in that area a few years and had never bothered anyone.

Yep, right here in SE Minnie-soda.

We'll all need "Jack the Cats" for protection.

Maybe Jack Chased that bear into the road? Making Jack a very naughty cat? With an amazing range.

Why would a bear wear a helmet?

Oh, I saw a road killed bear just last weekend. Very rare. Perhaps that one should have worn a helmet.

Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

At least he died with freedom on his mind.

Who's Jack The Cat??

graska - you have to post a link. You can't link a photo off your hard drive if that's what you're trying to do.

Hmmmm...again a bear gets blamed for killing someone by running across the road. It did not attack and kill them so how did the bear kill them?

Sorry but saying the whatever animal kills someone when it runs into the road reminds me of news media dribble and hype. The animal in question didn't kill anyone...caused a fatal accident yes...

did the bear run out onto the road, or did the man build a road in the bears living room?

OK, Mr. "News Person"

The headline of the story as given and opening sentence don't say the beer killed the person.

But YES, your thread title said exactly that.

HELLO??!??
