I am thinking about doing the AT from Carver's to 19E next weekend. Won't know for sure if I can make it until middle of next week so this is a "maybe trip" and thus, I am not posting it.

Plans would be to get my specialist to drop me off Sat Morning and pick me up sometime Sunday afternoon or drop my vehicle off at 19E around noon (surely I won't get vandalized in a two hour window in the afternoon).

If anyone can do this on late notice, I can arrange shuttle for two or three.

does this mean you won't be going on the WV trip next weekend?

HOI, doubtful.

Look's like I will be busting it to get all my work done by Friday next week and I don't think I can swing the WV trip.

Not even sure I can make it to Carver's Gap.

Well hell, the Andrews Bald trip is that Saturday.

Guess Carvers will have to wait another week.

Ewker and I are giong up to Roan Highlands this weekend, Ya'll come and join us. We should arrive at Roan Gardens/Cloudlands area before noon on Sat. We will either hike to Grassy ridge and come back and stay at Roan High Shelter on Sat night or go to Roan High Shelter first and spend the night at Grassy Ridge. Contact us before we leave very early Sat (tomorrow) is you want to find us.

Chili, I agree with CB...probably my favorite section of trail. The trek downhill to 19E is a little rocky but not too bad.

Hope you can go...enjoy!

If you do that section, there is a B&B .3 miles from the A.T. on 19E called Mountain Harbour. They also have a hostel located over the barn (and it doesn't smell like horses). If you stay a night, I'm sure they'd let you leave your car there and it would be safe. If you do stay there - DEFINITELY have breakfast. Mary cooks everything from scratch and it's amazing! Pancakes, egg casserole, fresh fruit salad, bacon, cinnamon bundt cake.... We had breakfast and didn't leave until 1pm because we were so stuffed full.

Have a blast - it's a beautiful section! One of our favorites so far. :)

I'm wanting to hit this stretch and stay at the barn during fall colors. Is the 3rd weekend in October a good bet?

Should be but I say it depends on rainfall between now and then (assuming it isn't to late already). If it remains this dry, expect colors to come in and out in a blink of the eye.
