This is my second week at my new job. I am loving it so far.

As to what happened to my last job, well, I got laid off. Some manager in Europe decided to consolidate his group, and since I was part of the last group he still had in the US, I had to go. It wasn't all bad, they paid my COBRA for three months and gave me two months' severance pay. So everything was pretty much okay.

I had fun for about three months, but it's good to be working again. I don't currently have Internet access at my new job, so I can only get on TT in the evenings, and early morning. This explains some of my absence from TT, but not all. I have been too busy at home to post very much.

I found out something about myself. I am not one of those people who have to have a job to stay sane. I found out that if it weren't for that damn "money" thing, I wouldn't ever work again. But, I do enjoy my new job a lot, and I look forward to going into work every day.

That's my news. Y'all have a good day.

Oh, I keep forgetting to add this bit, it's rich:

About two weeks before I started this job, my old boss called me up and told me that there was a position opening up, and I could have it if I was interested. She had talked me up to the guys I'd be working for,
and they were interested in talking to me. Well, I was still sort of waiting, so I agreed to talk to them.

Before I was able to talk to them though, I got the offer from the place I'm working for now. So, I made things just a little interesting.

I sat down and talked with the upper level manager (not my old boss) and asked him what assurances he could give me that the same thing wouldn't happen again in a few months. He said he couldn't give me any, but that the director "wanted" to keep the group here. So I told him he'd have to make me a pretty good offer to come back.

He said, "Oh, I think company policy is that, if you come back, you come back at the salary you were making when you left."

Now, realize that they have already been through their raise cycle for the year.

I told him if they thought they could lay me off, and then hire me back for the same money after the annual raise cycle, they had another thing coming. This pretty much set the tone for the remainder of the interview.

I talked to a couple of the guys I'd be working with, who were completely sympathetic, saying stuff like "We figured you could do this job until you found something else." They were pretty relieved when I told them I had already found another job. I talked to my old boss for a little while, mostly just catching up. Then, we went back to the upper level manager's office for a last chat. He told me he'd check with HR on that policy, but that he knew that I'd be a good, productive employee again, and a valued member of the team. I told him I thought the company had no idea what they were doing, and that I had been laid off arbitrarily by an organization that didn't know what they were doing.

They haven't gotten back with me yet.

Good for you bit! Hope the new gig works out for you. That's kinda funny how they played that out - kinda a "Doh!" moment for them maybe.

I know what you mean about the money thing, i'm the same way, I'd imagine that a lot of us here are.

Congrats Bit....never know what tomorrow will bring. Years ago I got canned by a Company President (who later went on to his own little padded room in a State Facility.)
He terminated me becuase "he was not able to read my endorsement on the paycheck".
I went on to an inspector job (at TWICE THE PAY)...then contract management then Investigations....Never would have thought...

OH YEAH...Three years after they cut me loose, I had the fun of going to one of their construction sites for a Contract Compliance Review.

You work on those bit? Post a video of the first tests after you started there. I wanna see the looks on their faces when the missle hits and a little flag pops out of the end that says, "BANG!" on it. LOL!

Ha, I can't even get my hands on an inert round to bring home for my son.

Nige, the system is "fielded" as they say in the biz. I work on testing the new equipment to make sure it works the way the prime contractor says it will.

I did a little poking around on Google image search, and that's a T-72 being obliterated.

It sucks to be a tanker in the 21st century.

Boy I love my new job. The biggest drawback is no Internet access. I don't even have an email address at work yet. But that's probably best; I have to spend all my time actually working.

I'm finally writing the code that will replace the tests we currently run on the Javelin CLU. In a couple weeks I'll be done with the first shot at it, and I can begin improving it. My bosses will be so frickin' amazed with me that they will arrange for me to get constant hummers from that cute chick with the pouty lips a few cubes down.

I am so great.
