She needed some crap from LOC which wasn't on-line and asked if I was looking for some extra work. So I registered (gotta do it in person), and went to work.

Don't get the idea that I'm promoting a business or anything for researchers/writers that might need info (pictures, docs, manuals, manuscripts) from LOC. Just that I did it. And I'm local. And I'm registered.........................that's all.”

“Thanks everyone. I've been beating my head against a wall trying to get a job at the big hospital but without any time in a facility (working there, not as a guest) it's tough tot get in. I ended up getting a better package at Hospice and the money's about the same. The best part is 30 days off a year to spend hiking with my friends...that's you guys.”

“I got transferred to the bakery department. Tomorrow at 4AM is when I start. More pay, about the same hours. Of course my last shift as a cashier ends tonight at 7PM, so I won't get much sleep tonight. I found out about this on Friday. They had some people transfer from another store that was closed, and most of them wound up on the front end. So it's off to doing doughnuts and bread and such. I've liked being in the front end, but I can't really argue with the pay increase. I reckon I'll get used to the new hours by-and-by.”

Years ago I was a breadman in D.C. with start times of 4:00 AM.
Oh yeah, I was a Teamster......still am.
That was a great place to work and the work was hard.......good people......great products......shared success.
We worked under a good contract with serious workers and little turn-over. Thieves and goof-offs were weeded out by the process.
The bakery workers and drivers made a good living and the company enjoyed success.

Nobody uses it at my store and nobody mentioned it to me but I noticed it there. Make that 3AM, they changed my schedule already. I've enjoyed working front end, and I've had no trouble getting 36 or so hours per week. They like to start people as courtesy clerk though, and that means pushing shopping carts around in the parking lot.”

Pamela, Union jobs for the most part are excellent. The dues generally aren't that much and MarkO is correct, you wouldn't have any of the issues you've had with transfers being denied and injury right now. You may have to watch as folks who don't pull their weight go through a looooong firing process but, if you just focus on your own work it doesn't make too much difference.”

I'm happy to be back to front end cashiering, and word is I'm up for assistant manager training. The front-end manager was so tickled to have me back. It's so nice to be someplace you're wanted.”

“presales engineering but it's a small company and i am told i'll have to 'wear a lot of hats' which is exactly where i thrive. i have never done well in a tightly regimented organization where you are expected to do your job and -only- do your job. the pay is fair, meaning that i am being paid a fair wage for the work they will expect of me, but the difference in opprotunity and potential for job satisfaction is radically different. i interviewed with the CEO, CTO, Chairman, VP of Sales, Presales Manager, etc, etc. i was impressed with everyone and can't wait to work with them... esp the CTO who says he is a rock climber and suggested a trip to the gunks... haha, can't beat that for a connection, eh?

“Research it, but don't worry over it to much...there are WAY to many jobs working on the contractor side to do that(assuming you have issue or second thoughts after retirement)...if you retire and get better, the retirement check just adds to the income from your contract job at better pay...”
