I had several opportunities but never saw Pink Floyd, even had tickets once but something came up

and then there was that show in '79 where some folks wanted me to go see this new group, I had heard of them, they had been played on the radio a few times, but I doubted they would ever amount to much, Van Halen.

lonesurveyor I saw Van Halen open up for Black Sabbath back in '78 or somthing. Nobody knew who they were and they blew the place away. Black Sabbath was a let down after that.

I passed up a chance to see The Who before Keith Moon died. I've kicked myself for that for years and years. I was chaseing a woman at the time that didn't care for them.

The Who were the World's Greatest Rock band, not those posturing Rolling Stones.

The Who kicks ass
Down at the Astoria the scene was changing,
Bingo and rock were pushing out X-rating,
We were the first band to vomit in the bar,
And find the distance to the stage too far,
Meanwhile it's getting late at ten o'clock,
Rock is dead they say,
Long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

People walk in sideways pretending that they're leaving,
We put on our makeup and work out all the lead-ins,
Jack is in the alley selling tickets made in Hong Kong,
Promoter's in the pay box wondering where the band's gone,
Back in the pub the governor stops the clock,
Rock is dead, they say,
Long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

Landslide, rocks are falling,
Falling down 'round our very heads,
We tried but you were yawning,
Look again, rock is dead, rock is dead, rock is dead.

The place is really jumping to the Hiwatt amps,
'Til a 20-inch cymbal fell and cut the lamps,
In the blackout they dance right into the aisle,
And as the doors fly open even the promoter smiles,
Someone takes his pants off and the rafters knock,
Rock is dead, they say,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.

Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock,
Long live rock, long live rock, long live rock.

Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Stevie Ray Vaughan. I had a chance back in 89 or 90 to see him with Joe Satriani in Cincinnati, but couldn't get off work. I was still in high school and the guys with the extra ticket were total pothead losers, so I wasn't too broken up about it at the time. Then the helicoptor crashed and I have regretted not calling in sick ever since.

Lets see

Who in Charlotte, 1971

Greensboro, 1974

Boulder, 1983, long after Keith Moon died.

But thinking back to 1974, I was really disappointed that the Moody Blues broke-up and I had not seen them and absolutely could not imagine they would reform with me seeing them in Greensboro, 1979 and Denver, 1980, of course Mike Pinder still worked studio with them but he would not tour, keyboards and synthesizers for concerts were played by Patrick Moranz? formerly of Yes? when they reformed, and Pinder's problem with touring was due to the audience thinking the band actually had some sort of 'Life-Message', which they didn't, just musicians, which was the source of their breakup originally.

Led Zep
The Doors
Jimi Hendrix

Seen Pink Floyd in '94 up in B.C. Place stadium, they played Dark Side Of The Moon straight through, best show ever.

Also seen Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Gruntruck, C.O.C., Forced Entry, and numerous other Seattle bands at a little known free concert series called Pain In The Grass, shown under the Space Needle on friday nights at the mural ampitheater. This was of course, before the Seattle Puget Sound Tital Wave of music hit in the 90's.

I got to see a few bands on people's lists:

Bob Marley
The Kinks in the early 70s
Aerosmith when they were still a Boston Band (and when they still kicked ass a few years later)

I regret leaving Austin Tx. just before Stevie Ray started playing there - never did get to see him (saw his brother though).
I regret not seeing Zepplin (friends went and I begged off for some stupid reason),

Other acts I wish I'd see and never did:
The Dead,
Beatles,
The Stones when they were awesome,
James Brown (in his prime)
Little Richard (ditto)
Jimi Hendrix
Janis Joplin
Ray Charles
Nirvana
John Coltrane
Gong
Robert Johnson

My biggest disappointment in Rock:

was finding out sometime later that if, on that day-off from work in 1976, when I drove up into the Blue Mountains from Dayton, Washington where I was working for the summer driving a combine to the furthest point that a 2WD Chevy Vega would go on that USFS road/trail and got out and walked about 10 miles and then back to the car, if I had walked a few miles further, that none other than John Fogarty was manning a store/cafe/bar at the end of the trail I was walking which was at the end of the road coming from the other side of the Blue Mts. in Oregon!

Still, soon before getting back to the car about dark I jumped a large group of elk and there was cool lightning displays off toward Idaho.

Whoopee John Wilfahrt and the 7 Flying Dutchmen.

Actually there was such a (polka) band playing the upper midwest in the 50's and 60's. Maybe even the 30's and 40's, but you'd have to ask Nowslimmer.

I saw Nirvana right before they got big for $5. No security, no crew and the venue was so small you could sit on the edge of the stage if you liked.

Kurt Cobain hit my friend up to help load the amps in the van after the gig.

Here's a few tidbits from the past:
Best Shows I Did See:

Queen - Best damn stadium/arena show by far! Those boys ROCKED!
The Tubes - Some radio airplay in the late 1970s/early 1980s, but they REALLY excelled live with their cheezy (but effective!) stage show in smaller venues.
Emmerson, Lake & Palmer - Great stage show.

Shows I remember that were not impressive:

Led Zepplin - the original members.
Rolling Stones - They'd "gathered too much moss" by 1978.

Bach wrote the The Brandenburg Concertos to his level of ability, which was prodigious. At any given time, there are usually less than 10 people in the world who can play them correctly at full tempo.

That said, I think I would kill to go back in time and see Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro live.
