So how do you guys like to set one up? Burry your stakes? Rocks if available? Driftwood if available? Does anyone ever use deadmen (ahem)?

Any other suggestions?

Pack several "Wal Mart" bags in your pack. Fill them with sand and run your lines through the handle loops.

Do you just mean any old plastic bag or are the Walmart bags beter than most?

I use target bags cause they are thicker. Worked well for my tarptent. I know someone else who used Wal Mart bags. Any plastic bag you can fill with stuff with a handle will do. Take extras in case you bust one.

Right on! Those Target bags are made of a pretty good plastic, aren't they. Yeah, this is for use with a TarpTent on the Lost Coast. I've always used a freestanding tent there before.

Thanks.

You can bury a stick too.

I usually bury the stake, even the wire kind, about 8 inches and then heap the sand about that high above ground level.

The 10" plastic T-beam kind are good for extra insurance.....same method.

I should have said bury a stick and attach a length of cord.

I use the same deadmen for snow-camping or the sand. They're 4" X 4" wood squares, I drill a hole in the middle & run a 1/4" cord thru, knot it, then leave a length of 2 or 3 ft. out the other side to tie off. I've used the same ones now for at least 5 years with no problem.

Hey Rosey, I've been meaning to say "welcome back"! Didn't see any posts from you for a long time, and now a couple in the last week!

Thanks, Wanderer. I had to take a break for a while and actually, my job is still really demanding and then I'm all knackered out after work, yadda yadda.

I am down for a trip, most definitely, now that the Sierra are clearing off.

I'm taking an innaugural trip to the Lost Coast next weekend and then, it's full steam ahead for the summer! We should organize a N. Cali crew trip. Maybe August?
