Olympic Coast HikeView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 3 of 3 messages posted.
“Me and the whole fam damily are planning to hike out to the Olympic Coast from Lake Ozette, camp on the beach, hike south on the coast, camp another night, then hike back to Lk. Ozette, forming a triangle. Does anyone have any inside information on that hike? Any suggestions?” 4:45:01 PM 6/26/06 “I've done it a couple o times. It's quite nice. Just be aware of the tides when you are doing the beach hike. There are two headlands that you may have to cross over the land, involving climbing. But if the tide is out it's nice to just stay on the beach. Bear cans are required out there. The north beach, Cape Alava allows fires, but the south beach, Sand Point does not. Sand Point in the nicest in my opinion, but Alava has some really cool petroglyphs of whales and such. Check with the ranger at Ozette when getting your permit about tides, the glyphs and to rent a bear can if you don't have one. (Cans are required because apparently the local coons and crows know how to open Ursacks and will climb/fly to open food hung in bags. I think you may also use a bucket with a snap on lid. I forget what kind tho. No bears out there.) The kids will love the beachcombing.” 5:09:33 PM 6/26/06 “You are doing the loop counterclockwise. If you take the clockwise approach you keep the scenery in front of you and the sun behind you.” 10:06:45 PM 6/26/06
