Today and tomorrow The Hermitage was having an 1815 regiment encampment. I arrived around 8:45 while it was still cool outside. By the time I left around noon is was hot. I was soaked with sweat.
The folks who dress up for this wear the original uniforms/clothes
for that time. Most of the clothing was wool with cotton long sleeve
shirts. They sleep in canvas tents using straw as bedding. When asked
how they stay cool they say they wet the clothing down and wait for a breeze to cool you off.

It was cool watching them fire the canons and muskets. They could fire off 3 rounds per minute with the muskets. They used sometype of projectile that would have 4 balls per shot when fired. The muskets that the British used were still the ones that only fired one ball.
They talked about the Battle of New Orleans and how the country had changed from the previous yr 1814.

very cool!!!!

I visited the Hermitage once when i was about 9 - that was a few years ago. I also got to visit Monticello once - the one thing that stands out about Monticello was the clock. It had a pendulum chain that went through the floor into the basement so that it only had to be 'rewound' once per day.
