Maybe near Rawah Lakes?? I have the map right here at work. What it be a basecamp style trip? BTW.. 1. Have you seen the couloir route up The Crags? It has a 60% grade at the top! 2. Have you ever looked at Mt. Zirkel Wilderness?” Adventurist 11:14:30 AM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “basecamping type thing would be real cool. there's tons of space to explore up there. I've not seen that route yet - but it sounds FUN. I've not looked at Zirkel much at all. Bowlderman - you know your welcome here anytime you run out of places to go in the Sierra!” Roam Around 11:18:00 AM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “John, could you and the missus do a Labor Day trip up there? It'd be a nice long weekend. I'll check with Diane and let you know what our dates look like, but I'm thinkin that might be pretty good.” Roam Around 11:21:50 AM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “I was actually thinking of doing a buttkicker to Rawah Lakes this weekend. THe 19 mile loop in 2 days. Am i crazy? Let me talk with the missus tonight.” Adventurist 11:48:01 AM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “haha....hey, do yall know a good halfway spot to camp? Are all the lakes above treeline?” embear 11:54:03 AM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “I suggest looking here for info: http://www.resourceanalysis.com/rawah.html For example there's a campsite here: http://www.resourceanalysis.com/fishing/fish39/f39.html” Adventurist 11:58:23 AM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “thanks john!” embear 12:08:13 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “The lakes are at or just below treeline. There's tons of places to camp at the lakes. There is one meadow off the left of the trail about halfway - it might be wet though. A little beyond that on the top of a rise theres a nice seasonal pool/small lake thats about 200 yards off the trail, again to the left. These spots are on the Rawah Trail. The mosquitos will be brutal up there, carry lots of deet! last edited: 7/12/06 12:27:22 PM” Roam Around 12:26:36 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Or the new Picodern or whatever the stuff is called.” Adventurist 12:31:29 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “That first meadow area I talk about is right close to a junction with a trail signed as leading to "Lost Lake". Apparantly, there are several lakes in CO that are lost. sad, really.” Roam Around 12:34:49 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Well I ain't going. Took the Rawah Trail to Twin Crater Lakes and camped near the junction of the Rawah Trail and Twin Crater Lakes trail. Next day we hiked to Lower Camp Lake and stayed there (saw moose in the lake - two cows and a calf). We hiked out on the Camp Lake Trail back to our cars. It was a nice loop hike, about 18 miles in three days.” woodzie 3:13:11 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “cool Em, the four pass loop - over like 4 or 5 days. I'll email ya... tonight from home.” Roam Around 3:15:08 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “thats what im doing this weekend woodzie (well, hopefully)” embear 3:15:52 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “ah, damn. Doing a 5-day trip there.” embear 3:17:05 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “I'd like to summit both North and South Rawah Peak - 12k + for both - but they be neat mountains!” Roam Around 3:18:01 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “there's some guys going to climb Capitol on sun Aug 6, but i can't go that day :( I've got tix to see MCR adn others that night.” Roam Around 3:20:00 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ““hey man - come on out - we'll put together an outing whenever you can get here.” Roam Around Hey Roam, I'm posting a reply here so you don't have to answer two threads. I'm ready to do something western. I guess you are pretty much limited to weekends after school starts. My best time will be in September after school starts. I'm Mr. Mom in the summer on my off days and have more flex after school starts. Something will come together. I was even checking the other site for any groups going out west. I'm more confused now than before trying to navigate Bpacker.com. For me the people are just as important as the place. I like going with a moderate group of 3 to 8. Keep in touch and we will see what happens. I'm ready to do like you guys and just make the move west. If I can make the wife go for it I'm moving. She hates to leave her roots, I can palnt mine wherever. last edited: 7/12/06 3:31:21 PM” Bateauxdriver 3:29:06 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “right on - i was looking at Labor Day weekend for this just to avoid buring up vacay days. And your right - weekends become almost the only option once school starts - but you never know - sometimes things work out. I'm doing a trip the first week of August in Maroon Bells if you want in on that - my email is in my profile - i'll get you the info if you want - should be pretty relaxed overall, but I am planning on at least one 14er that week. lemme know.” Roam Around 3:45:11 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Talked to Wifey, looks like we both have off that Laborous Day Monday. And I'm sure I could leave early that Friday. Were you think of a 3 day thang?” Adventurist 6:06:12 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Yeah, lets go up Friday and stay thru monday I'll put some plans together and disseminate the info to all interested parties.” Roam Around 10:01:18 PM 7/12/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Disseminate??? You keep your bodily functions to yourself man!” Adventurist 4:40:08 AM 7/13/06 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Keep me in the loop. I probably couldn't do Fri-Mon, but if its basecamp style, maybe I can join for part of it.” T Mac 5:55:59 AM 7/13/06 ignore this user --------------------------------------------------------------------------------” 8:20:25 AM 7/13/06 “Group limit is 8 in the wilderness area.” 8:24:01 AM 7/13/06 “Yo! What's happen'n?” 8:05:03 AM 8/01/06 “Dang. I missed this trip post. Can't get out that weekend. :-( Been to Rahwah three times. First time in early 70's--I think it was 1973. Friend, his brother, and I traveled to Wisconsin in a Chevette. Friend and I were 18, his brother was 13. Before we could go, my parents had to meet friend's parents. My mother asked friend's mother, "Aren't you worried?" Friend's mother said, "They're responsible." Little did she know. :-) Hope you can do the trip and it goes well.” 8:21:52 AM 8/01/06 “Did Roam's computer die at home?” 7:17:45 AM 8/02/06 “Roam's moving, but stilll in the Denver area... His computer was unhooked, last I know.” 7:49:14 AM 8/02/06 “Ahhhh..thanks!” 8:41:33 AM 8/02/06 “Hey Roam. I just picked up a guidebook and great map for the Rahwah Area. Here is the website for the publisher which shows the book and has info/pics. http://www.mountainjaymedia.com/” 5:57:50 PM 8/13/06 this trip sounds.... “like its going to be great. Enjoy! I'll be saying hello to RMNP and Mummy Mtn on 9-16. I'll yell your name from the top Roam.” 8:36:32 AM 8/22/06 “I think we might just go up to the Snowy Range in the Medicine Bows of Wyoming. Any interest?” 12:01:59 PM 8/24/06 “Aww, Adventurist,I've been by the high peak up there and down by Encampment and the Blackhall (??) fire tower. Every so often I think doing the Encampment River Trail would. I hiked a little of it at the far end, as mentioned here: "Hike the Encampment River Trail. Thre are access points to this trail along the Encampment River and through the Encampment River Wilderness, 3 miles west of town at a BLM campground near Odd Fellows Camp and in Commissary Park, 20 miles southwest in the Hog Park area. The best hike is from Commissary to Odd Fellwos because it is downhill. You can also just hike a portion of the trail from either end. Local shuttle services are available if you need to retrieve a vehicle. Contack the Forest Service for information, 307-326-5258." It was very pretty at Commissary Park... although there were lurking cattle in the forest!! lol Have fun, whatever ya do, Mr. Feeney Adventure! And Roam, have fun, too! I am really limited on travel this time of year. Celebrating Labor Day at a place around 2 hours away. Saving on that danged gas!! And Stikky, have fun TOOOOOOOooooooo!” 12:44:13 PM 8/24/06 << back to Rawah Lakes page
