The weld holding the thermometer to the fence post melted and it fell to the ground...” 7:21:17 AM 7/31/06 “lol! We'll be back in the seventies by Thursday. This is tomato growing weather. We need it to get all our litle green tomatos moving towards ripeness.” 7:28:04 AM 7/31/06 “Tuesday: Mostly sunny skies. Hot and humid. Heat index near 115F. High 101F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph tomorrow is when I get the help that I need to clean out this old womans house. there will be five of us. she is a hoarder of over 50 cats. they have lived in her house for the last ten years while she has lived in a one room cat free. no a/c, no fans. everytime i open wondows she closes them. it will be hot and smelly. 115 outside means at least 120 to 125 inside. this will not be good. I think I will ask if we can do this another day. we can not do it at night because she has no eletric :(” 7:37:36 AM 7/31/06 “It’s not warm outside right now, it’s down right hot. It 89*F, but with the heat index it fells like 100*F. It’s supposed to get up to 95*F today with a heat index of 105. Tomorrow is supposed to be worse, with temps pushing 100*F. A nice artic blast from Canada would be nice right about now.” 12:24:10 PM 8/01/06 “heat index 107” 12:36:36 PM 8/01/06 “Heat index here is 105, thanks to 95%+ humidity. It feels like a blast furnace out there. You just want to crawl into someplace cool and shady and go to sleep.” 12:40:54 PM 8/01/06 “We have no AC in our work vans so you can imagine the sweat coming from places I had no idea the human body had.” 12:42:55 PM 8/01/06 “81*F here @noon- coolest August day I can remember.” 1:51:56 PM 8/01/06 “73 and overcast. Some rain. It's about time; we paid our dues.” 1:54:31 PM 8/01/06 ““73 and overcast. Some rain. It's about time; we paid our dues.” Nimblefoot 2:54:31 PM 8/01/06 Yeah, but couldn't you have sent is some place else, besides my neck of the woods?” 2:13:20 PM 8/01/06 “If you don't want it, just push it on south.” 2:47:41 PM 8/01/06 “complaining about rain????? are you nutz?” 2:48:51 PM 8/01/06 “It's been a while. Where are you now, skiracer? Getting psyched to cruise the bumps already? I'm looking forward to something else. And watching college football in below freezing weather stinks on ice.” 3:07:36 PM 8/01/06 “92 out today with 57% humidity. Tomorrow is supposed to be 98, but temps are supposed to be back down in the low 80's by the weekend.” 3:41:13 PM 8/01/06 “Man that pool felt good today. Laurel spent 4.5 hours in the pool today. She ought to sleep really well tonight. She's almost 4, has to wear a 6 year old's swimsuit for the length, and can tippy toe all over the shallow end already. We put water wings on her, and she paddled all over the pool.” 3:55:58 PM 8/01/06 “thrifty jr had his first dip yesterday...it was just a 1.5ft pool in our back yard but he loved it...he's still too small for the smallest swimmer diaper so we used a real one...it swelled up bigger than his head LOL” 3:58:02 PM 8/01/06 “Those things are a water hazard! Just let him go natural!” 4:01:10 PM 8/01/06 “it was so hot in the womans house. i went to the attic and i was hit with a hot burn. what i mean is, it was so hot up there that i felt like it was pure fire. after 18 cats and two hours (done in two trips) i had enough and found the nearst water sprinkler. i stood under it till i was dripping wet. yes in full unifrom. i plan on doing it again to day and tomorrow till the house is rid of cats.” 6:45:45 AM 8/02/06 “Mapes that sounds awful. Does the house smell like cat pee? We lost power last night. It kinda hummed at half power for a few seconds so I ran around unplugging everything. It came back on but reset our thermastat to 85°. No ne slept well last night. Tomorrow is our cool off back to seventy something. I can't wait!!” 7:49:31 AM 8/02/06 “Sassy, when Rita hit our area last year we went four days without power/water. It was quite exciting around here. I kept a piece of cardboard in my hand at night to wake up and fan myself and my wife off then go back to sleep. There was no breeze and it was about 98 outside. I feel for ya.” 7:52:47 AM 8/02/06 “That's how I grew up Chappy. No a/c and little heat in winter. Frost used to form on the inside of my bedroom windows. I never had central air until about three years ago. It's nice. I have less problem with the heat at night than my sweetheart. My main problem was him thrashing around. One night isn't too bad. I feel for the folks in the city with no fans, no ice, no nothing.” 7:57:25 AM 8/02/06 “Man, Sass, you sound positively ancient, lol.” 7:58:56 AM 8/02/06 “Deep down inside I am. I used to shovel mountains of manure, and split wood too. Not right for a 33 year old who grew up in the suburbs is it?! My Dad was mean, lol.” 8:01:22 AM 8/02/06 “Some of us still don't have central air. I heat with a woodstove in winter. It keeps you warm at least 3 times, 1) splitting, 2) stacking, and 3) burning. I do have a window ac unit though.” 8:04:16 AM 8/02/06 “Sass, we had no a/c either. I grew up in the Appalachian foothills of Pa. Hell, you didn't need a/c then, just open the windows and sleep good, cept in winter. We had a fuel oil funace in the basement.” 8:04:46 AM 8/02/06 “sass when i first walked in I almost passed out :( but then I got my face mask and I was able to hadle the smell. twignut offered to help me today. made me pround since this is her day off and she should be at the pool or lake and not at a hot stinky flea invested poop smelling pee cat house with dead animals everywhere. not enjoying me job right now :(” 8:10:02 AM 8/02/06 “Holey Cats!! Just don't puke on the floor and slip and fall in it, Duchess!!” 8:15:39 AM 8/02/06 “funny you say that. i almost fell down the staris. with all the cat hair and urine and pooh and dirt, the floors are very dirty. but with the heat it is melting everything. so it is slippery. im thinking "havmat suit" today” 8:20:35 AM 8/02/06 “Hazard Pay.................” 8:21:43 AM 8/02/06 “You're a better man than I, Duchess! Most people would be callin' Ralph, shoutin' at their shoes..........servin' up sidewalk pizza.........blowin' lunch.............slingin' hash” 8:31:40 AM 8/02/06 “arclite, misses your post yesterday. It was in the mid 80's yesterday at the house. I played a tennis match yesterday at an indoor court and it was 88 degrees, but at least the sun wasn't beating down on us. It was 75 this morning when I walked the dog at 6 AM. It looks like this may just be the hottest day of the year...97 forecast. Yes, I'm looking forward to strapping on the boards and cruising down the hill in three our four months.” 8:33:21 AM 8/02/06 “mmmmmmmmmm snow” 8:35:50 AM 8/02/06 “Snow sounds great to me!” 8:37:38 AM 8/02/06 “can I put in an order for 'som dat'?” 8:38:57 AM 8/02/06 “Supposed to be 98° today....nice. I never thought I would say it but, but 98° is perfect. OK, not perfect but better than 115°” 8:40:47 AM 8/02/06 “Maybe this will help cool everyone off. ”8:42:02 AM 8/02/06 “Buncha whiners. (oops, that's a different thread)” 8:43:17 AM 8/02/06 “Wednesday: Sunny. Near record high temperatures. Heat index near 115F. High 103F. Winds W at 10 to 20 mph. i think i will print out pic and look at it while i suffer from heat stroke” 8:44:13 AM 8/02/06 “Be carefull, Mapes.” 8:48:26 AM 8/02/06 ““Some of us still don't have central air. I heat with a woodstove in winter. It keeps you warm at least 3 times, 1) splitting, 2) stacking, and 3) burning. I do have a window ac unit though.” lumberzac 9:04:16 AM 8/02/06 How many dawgs ya got under the porch? Oh and, thanks for the picture!! Was that the Santanoni trip with Unca Gremlin?” 9:09:38 AM 8/02/06 “97 - feels like 108.” 3:34:30 PM 8/02/06 “It's all going to be better tomorrow.” 4:32:54 PM 8/02/06 “I just watched the local news; 2 stations are reporting the temperature is at 97 right now, a third reads 100 degrees, and a 4th had their thermometer outside the station break. Go figure on that. The local power comapny has started begging people to keep extraneous electronic devices off, the lights off or down, and to please edge the AC temperature up; they're that close to a blowout. My mother in law is a music teacher; the teachers all reported back to school this week. Her school has yet to turn on/ repair the ac for the music room. They said it'll be taken care of some time next week, after all the kids are back. The thermometer in her classroom read 97 by 11 am. She finished what she had to do in the staff room, and told the principal basket case she won't use the room until it is repaired.” 5:01:36 PM 8/02/06 “Two days ago we set a new temp record, yesterday we tied it. I am so friggin sick of this weather. Work is unbearable. The buidlings are locked down with everything closed (windows etc) and the ventilation systems shut down to conserve power, very stuffy and durn hot. I have been drinking at least 1gal of water per day at work and am still thirsty. I have a VERY patient customer waiting for his new furnace to be installed (the old one is wrecked) so he has no A/C, he and his wife arent happy. But they know that by waiting till sept they will get a 30% discount. I put a window unit in their room the other day. Awesome pic lumberzac.” 6:05:06 PM 8/02/06 “Ahhhh... 72* in the lovely Upper Peninsula. Woo Hoo” 6:37:40 PM 8/02/06 “Grrrrrr... Tarabull!” 7:21:34 PM 8/02/06 ““Ahhhh... 72* in the lovely Upper Peninsula. Woo Hoo” tarabull 7:37:40 PM 8/02/06 Woo Hoo! I'll be getting that weather in a day or two. Send it this way please.” 7:49:08 PM 8/02/06 “Don't do it Tarabull. Just two days ago he was complaining about the weather I sent him from Wisconsin.” 8:06:56 PM 8/02/06 “Thursday: Becoming partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms developing this afternoon. A few storms may be severe. Heat index near 110F. High 97F. this might be the last day of the heat wave. im not sure if i can take another high heat day. my body hurts all over. my bones hurt my head hurts. im soo tired. in two days we have only gotten 20 cats out of the house. its so bad in there :( but on a side note I need to brag about my daughter. it was her day off and she offered to help me. i was waiting for "pi$$y hiker" to appear but she never did. i am soooo proud of her.” 8:04:47 AM 8/03/06
