Five Lakes Basin or Grouse Lake?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 3 of 3 messages posted.
Trying to decide! “Anyone been to either of these in Nor Cal? Any advice which to choose? I have three days starting tomorrow for a weekender and want to do one of them. Thanks, folks!” 1:07:33 PM 8/03/06 “Been to both a number of times, there's not a lot about the terrain that separates one from the other, you're in the same general area, so it almost becomes personal preference on which trails you like. For some reason I can't explain, I LOVE Sawmill Lake! Most people who go in at Carr-Feely Lake TH and hike around the whole Grouse Ridge area don't end up there, but I think it's a great place to end the days hike at & jump in for a swim or try for some trout for dinner. It's a pretty lake, IMHO. Don't know if you subscribe to the Nor Cal Hikers grp on Yahoo, we just had a pretty good exchange about the TP pollution near Island Lake... it's close enough in that there are a lot of day-hikers there who don't quite take care of business as they should... if you know what I mean :( Don't know if this helps... but I'd lean toward the less-traveled area--- 5 Lakes Basin.. or keep hiking far enough in that you don't have to contend with day-hiker contamination. I like the general area a lot... in fact I just may sneak up there myself this weekend!” 6:49:03 PM 8/03/06 “Thanks, Wanderer. I really appreciate the input from someone in the know. Yeah, we're going in this afternoon, so I guess we'll see how far in we get. I need a to get my hands on a good topo since the map I have is just a flat map. Anyway, maybe I'll see ya around up there. I'll be with a woman who looks like she can hike forever and red dog with its tounge dragging in the dirt :) I'll see about joining the Yahoo group. thanks for the heads up. J.” 1:23:38 PM 8/04/06
