I went to get my hair cut on my lunch break today and to my surprise they actually had Backpacker magizine. I can't even find this in the stores around here, not that I really want to.

Anyway, there was a review of this cool new spork. It only weighs 9oz!! Looks like the company has some pretty cool other toys too.

Our spoon-fork-knife combo brings a bit of civilization to the wild and a bit of the wild to civilization. Designed especially for Light My Fire by Scandinavian designer Joachim Nordwall. The Spork is perfect for your backpack, boat, picnic basket, lunchbox, purse or briefcase.

Think you can saw your arm off with the knife section of that if it gets pinned under a boulder?

It might be interesting to watch someone else try to eat a meal with one of those. Or as a conversation item, a group could discuss the proper way to hold one of those things.

looks to me like you get a good forkfull of food set it down on a flat surface then smack the spoon end and flip the food into your mouth.

There might be an easier method, but someone smarter than me will have to work out the procedure.

the serrated knife blade intrigues me...in theory this one utensil is supposed to replace three but in order to use a serrated blade you must have another utensil to hold what you are cutting

...oh i forgot to post the backpacker rag(oops i mean mag) said it only costs $3...i gotta hand it to them for writing about something that costs less than $50

That's it. I'm putting my tin foil hat back on. There is only enough room in my head for me and maybe me.

The weight may depend upon when the fingernails were last trimmed. They can hold a lot of weight in dirt, scratched-off scabs, nose pickings, etc.

I've given up on anything plastic for cooking with while backpacking. I melted the tines off of one of my Lexan forks and never looked back. I carry a wooden spoon with the handle shortened and the titanium SnowPeak spork.

I do find the concept of the dual utensil creative, however.
