Joun Muir Trail Info

“I planning to do a one week solo hike on the John Muir Trail this September. Any suggestions for a good trail head and take out point? Specific maps? Are dogs allowed? Other useful info?... I know someone out there wants to share their experience”

Dogs probably won't be allowed if you're out for a week - most of it passes through National Park.”

“South Lake to North Lake is pretty nice.

Also, Kearsarge Pass to Whitney Portal.

Either one is about a week and has mind-blowing scenery. Trainheads are not too far apart for either hike.”

“Depends on how many miles a day you plan to do and how quick you can acclimate. I just did 10 days from Roads End in Kings Cyn. to Edison Lake. The first few days were rough but I was starting to hit my stride after about four days. This has some great scenery, good fishing, and a hot springs at the Muir Trail Ranch. You can also bail at Florance Lake.
Yosemite Valley to Reds Meadow is also very nice.”
