gators “We're going to be heading out on vacation to St Augustine FL, St Mary's GA(Cumberland Island day trip), Savannah, & Charleston SC. Where through there is a good place to see alligators without going to a zoo. I know where to find them on Cumberland Island but don't have time to make it that far out. Rivers, creeks, parks, ect. I want to have a chance to see some on this trip. Thanks in advance!! Dude” 1:32:15 PM 8/18/06 “dude - didn't know you'd changed your handle. I'd wondered off and on what had happened to you. Glad to see you around.” 1:39:41 PM 8/18/06 “If you went a little further south to Merritt Island NWR (right across from the shuttle)there's boku big gators there.” 1:42:33 PM 8/18/06 “Where is Merritt Island?” 3:52:57 PM 8/18/06 “Never mind, I see it. That's farther down than we planned to go. I'm looking for something between St Augustine FL & Charleston SC.” 3:55:16 PM 8/18/06 “How about Harris Neck south of Savannah? Credit to pedxing: http://www.fws.gov/southeast/news/2004/r04-073.html” 6:06:26 PM 8/18/06 Gators! “Just west of your route to St. Mary's is Gator heaven, the Okeefenokee Swamp. You can skip over to Waycross, GA and rent canoes, heck you can see them at the dock. http://www.uwsp.edu/geo/projects/geoweb/participants/dutch/VTrips/Okeefenokee.HTM” 7:11:27 PM 8/18/06 “Thanks Yall, I got to checking out the Okeefenokee and that State Park at the north end looks real cool. We're going to check it out. I saw where the place was that Ped posted about but couldn't find any maps of the area on line. We're going to see what we can find when we get out there. We're heading out within the hour. We got the lap top with us so I'll be able to post when we get to St Augustine and where ever we stay that has access to the net.” 2:15:10 AM 8/19/06 “You need to hit the Okeefenokee dude. I heard the water level was real low and when the water gets low it's easy to see a whole bunch of gators in the wild.” 9:35:04 AM 8/19/06 “Nothing better than seeing gator meeting bang stick.” 2:23:47 PM 8/20/06 “Nothing better than seeing GATOR eating Bulldawg.” 3:52:22 PM 8/22/06 “I think I will puke at the thought of either.” 5:55:44 PM 8/22/06 “Having a great time so far! We did a ghost tour at St Augustine, Day hiked at Cumberland Island, Went to Okeefenokee Swamp Park, and now we're at Jekyll Island. Tommorrow we're going to Savannah. Here's some pics of the trip so far: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/richdude32/album?.dir=4e02re2&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos Enjoy, Dude” 7:59:23 PM 8/23/06 “nice pics dude” 8:10:38 PM 8/23/06 “Well allrighty then. Looks like you got to see some gators. cool.” 10:41:01 PM 8/23/06 “Yep.. the Swomp. Okeefenokee Swamp Park, a private entity, offers guided boat tours - gators galore. The "captains" are real characters. OSP is on the north side. Stepehen F. Foster SP, near Fargo, south, offers canoe and power boat rentals - prices are reasonable. You go pretty much where you like. There's an extensive network of trails that crisscross that area of the swomp. Some stretches of trail are so narrow that swomp etiquette requires you to yeild the right of way to gators... especially Moses and his clan. These are the only two Okey places with which I'm familiar. BTW - Cumby is still the best place to view gators, IMO. I've hiked all over gator country, and the biggest'un I've ever seen was there.” 2:00:25 PM 8/24/06 “I deffinatly plan to go back down there.” 8:31:57 PM 8/24/06 “Looks like a great trip so far. Thanks for sharing.” 8:48:55 PM 8/24/06
