I plan on having a cook off, Jamboree, Rock Run bushwhack, dayhike on the Old Loggers Path and much more.” 4:44:00 PM 8/19/06 “this will be a carcamping trip.” 5:51:53 PM 8/19/06 “I had no idea you car camp ENS.” 5:57:53 PM 8/19/06 “I just plain love camping, car, backcountry, whatever.. Masten is an old logging ghost town along the Pleasant Stream (good fishing). All that is left are foundations. The area is now a state forest primitive campground. There are several nice sized group sites. The sites are nice with large hemlock trees and soft flat ground. I hope to reserve the entire camping ground. It's pretty secluded and far from civilization, so we should have a good time. September in PA is still pretty warm. The Old Loggers Path is closeby and I would like to do a dayhike on the 13 miles western half. That is a very beautiful stretch of trail and it's not too difficult, but passes by some nice vistas and waterfalls. I would also like to explore the beautiful and scenic Rock Run. There isn't a trail along it, so that will be a bushwhack.” 6:07:40 PM 8/19/06 “Sounds like a very nice place to hang out and explore :)” 6:09:39 PM 8/19/06 “it is a neat area. http://community.webshots.com/album/341284240SFjnEO these are some pics from a trip a year ago when we dayhiked the OLP. We camped in Masten. I really enjoyed the campsite. There should be a pic or two or three from the campsite where we stayed. One thing to note is that it's a primitive camping area, so there are no facilities. Normal LNT applies. last edited: 8/19/06 6:16:14 PM” 6:14:35 PM 8/19/06 “Sigh...someday I will check out those eastern hills! :) I tired to comment on one of the photos but webshots isnt letting me... :( NM, I figured it out. DUH! last edited: 8/19/06 6:22:44 PM” 6:15:23 PM 8/19/06 “I'm hoping to make it even if it has to be for one night. I'll know more as the date gets closer.” 7:04:09 PM 8/19/06 “Damn fine idea!! My birthday is 26 September, y'all can spank me if you can catch me!” 12:13:46 PM 8/20/06 “hope you can make it Rich. Did you do the Pinnacle loop yesterday? - We'll have throwdown TT style for ya MarkO last edited: 8/20/06 12:15:20 PM” 12:13:49 PM 8/20/06 “OK!!” 12:17:57 PM 8/20/06 “I hope so too. I'll know more after Aug. 31 what's going on. I didn't make it down to the Pinnacle yesterday. I just did a short hike in the local woods before the rain started about 2 P.M.” 12:31:33 PM 8/20/06 Sounds Like A Good Time... “Wish I could make it, but I have tickets to see Roger Waters in Pittsburgh on Sunday the 24.” 7:04:24 PM 8/20/06 “I may rescedule for the Halloween weekend. That'll be more time to prepare for such a trip and hopefully more time for people to sign up. I'm hoping all the TT pickers and music types to be there and for it to be a stomp'n good time. How does Halloween sound? After all, we'd be camping in an old logging ghost town.. last edited: 8/20/06 7:32:54 PM” 7:32:06 PM 8/20/06 “Also.............OK!” 11:35:05 PM 8/20/06 “wimpcamping... whaddafuh?!?!? Hmmmm, we had better let Pennsy try it first.” 7:48:33 AM 8/28/06 from baltimore “83 north to harrisburg 322 west to 15 north stay on 15 all the way through Williamsport. get off the exit for PA 14 and take for about 8-10 miles and then turn right onto Pleasant Stream Road. drive slowly on pleasant stream road, it's a narrow washed out dirt road. I thinks it's about 5-6 miles.” 10:48:52 AM 8/28/06 “me is working on the campsites. may have to get a group permit, but it's in the works.” 10:52:26 AM 8/28/06 “Thank you, your hikingness!” 10:56:49 AM 8/28/06 “MarkO is lost already?” 11:20:21 AM 8/28/06 “Boogie-woogie last edited: 8/28/06 11:31:29 AM” 11:28:32 AM 8/28/06 “Nonsense, I'm a bushwhacker extraordinaire!! I have been lost before but I didn't die.....................yet.” 11:28:38 AM 8/28/06 “I'm working on the campsites. If they only allow me to reserve one site, I may need others to call and reserve other sites in Masten. I'd like to get atleast three sites. They allow 10 per site.” 10:56:38 AM 8/29/06 “I just found out that the Old Loggers Path, including Masten, which used to be in the Tiadaghton State Forest, is now in the newly created Loyalsock State Forest which was formed from parts of Tiadaghton and the entire Wyoming State Forest. I will keep details posted. I am expecting a call back from a ranger on the campsites today.” 10:58:57 AM 8/29/06 “I'm confused.......................lost” 11:03:39 AM 8/29/06 “awesome, I reserved three campsites and 10 people are allowed per site.” 11:08:10 AM 8/29/06 “I'm confused.......................lost” MarkO Pennsylvania recently realigned the State Forests.” 11:09:44 AM 8/29/06 “I knew he was lost.” 11:11:50 AM 8/29/06 “I should start a new thread that says october.” 11:12:37 AM 8/29/06 “The state forests were out of line? Thanks for reserving sites! The rest of you mooks had better show up or you will be harrassed mercilessly.” 2:42:49 PM 8/29/06 “Someone hit a deer in front of my house last Saturday evening and I helped my buddy load it on the truck. I'm bringing ROAD KILL!!!!!!” 7:27:15 AM 8/30/06 “Bless your soul, Gremlin!!” 7:48:46 AM 8/30/06 “mmmmmmmmmmm roadkill! my favorite!” 10:24:22 AM 8/30/06 “Maybe eating road kill will protect those who eat it from hazards on the road. Many years ago I ate shark while camping and snorkelling in The Keys and I think that kept the sharks from eating me. Hey, it worked!!” 10:56:32 AM 8/30/06 “RichieB, I hope you can make it. It would be great to see you. :)” 9:07:26 AM 9/01/06 “Would be nice to see you and everyone else too. I'm hoping to be there even if it has to be just for a day hike. By the time the end of October arrives I hope to have my feeding tube out and maybe even some kind of a voice back. I was hoping the tube would be removed yesterday, but it's too soon yet. Hopefully, 3 more weeks of hyperbaric oxygen will heal the wound and the tube will come out.” 9:22:44 AM 9/01/06 “I'll be driving south from Elmira, NY and going by Tiadaghton State Forest. Can anyone give me directions from, say, Marsh Hill?” 8:42:35 AM 9/25/06 BTW “The caribou is all gone, but I'll be bringing ... Wait for it ... BOOMboomBOOMboom ... ROAD KILL!!!!!! (Whitetail deer).” 8:43:57 AM 9/25/06 << back to Ghost o' Masten Halloween Bonehead Encampment page
