the Ghost of Masten - September Camp/Jam /Cookoff

“Planning to have a get together in Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains in the north eastern part of the state.

I plan on having a cook off, Jamboree, Rock Run bushwhack, dayhike on the Old Loggers Path and much more.”

Masten is an old logging ghost town along the Pleasant Stream (good fishing). All that is left are foundations. The area is now a state forest primitive campground. There are several nice sized group sites. The sites are nice with large hemlock trees and soft flat ground. I hope to reserve the entire camping ground.

It's pretty secluded and far from civilization, so we should have a good time.

September in PA is still pretty warm.

The Old Loggers Path is closeby and I would like to do a dayhike on the 13 miles western half. That is a very beautiful stretch of trail and it's not too difficult, but passes by some nice vistas and waterfalls.

I would also like to explore the beautiful and scenic Rock Run. There isn't a trail along it, so that will be a bushwhack.”

these are some pics from a trip a year ago when we dayhiked the OLP. We camped in Masten. I really enjoyed the campsite. There should be a pic or two or three from the campsite where we stayed.

One thing to note is that it's a primitive camping area, so there are no facilities.
Normal LNT applies.

“I may rescedule for the Halloween weekend. That'll be more time to prepare for such a trip and hopefully more time for people to sign up. I'm hoping all the TT pickers and music types to be there and for it to be a stomp'n good time. How does Halloween sound? After all, we'd be camping in an old logging ghost town..

stay on 15 all the way through Williamsport.
get off the exit for PA 14 and take for about 8-10 miles and then turn right onto Pleasant Stream Road.

drive slowly on pleasant stream road, it's a narrow washed out dirt road.

I thinks it's about 5-6 miles.”

If they only allow me to reserve one site, I may need others to call and reserve other sites in Masten. I'd like to get atleast three sites. They allow 10 per site.”

“I just found out that the Old Loggers Path, including Masten, which used to be in the Tiadaghton State Forest, is now in the newly created Loyalsock State Forest which was formed from parts of Tiadaghton and the entire Wyoming State Forest.

I will keep details posted. I am expecting a call back from a ranger on the campsites today.”
