I forgot my spoon ...
... again.

Other than that it was a good hike in the Cranberry - down Big Beechy Tr. and up Middle Fork Tr.

Nice waterfall at the intersection of the two trails - the pool looked very inviting.

Make one.

When I worked for the hoods in the woods program the kids had to make their own spoons while we were on our trips. Most had a rudimentary spoon by the first meal.

They thought it wasd a woodsy/boy scout kinda thing.

It was to keep from getting our throats cut while we slept.

DAM%>..MTN so you are teaching future "Guests of the State" to make spoons to dig out of prison (LOL).

I ended up with a half a dozen "Kids on the Edge" one night in the woods. About 10 PM I heard them arguing about going out to do some "stuff" then the discussion about WOLVES came up...

This is SOUTH Central Georgia, in a rather suburban area (400 Acre camp in an undeveloped part of the city). So the kids come over to me...tentatively and ask." Sir, are there any wolves around here?"

I casually answer,"Nah, the bears ate them all years ago." So Thuggee One looks at Thuggee Two and says, "See They ain't no wolves........BEAHS>>>>>>???????"

(LOL) it was really quiet at night as we listened to them huddle in their tents.

OH THUGGEE One....I must have made an impression becuase he went from a frequent flyer at the Youth Assessment Center (10 yrs ago) to Community College getting ready to transfer to A Major college to get his degree. (You can put this under "WHY I STAY IN SCOUTING)

great job xl. It's often a thankless job, but in ten years you'll run into him and he'll happily remember the "Bear" moment.

btw what I did to eat my food - since it was in zip lock bags I just used a stick to stir the food and then when cooked cooled it down with some water and just squeezed the bag to bring the food up to the lip of the bag and then just bit the food off the edge of the bag - not elegant but hey its backpacking and it worked ... again

actually duct taping an emergency spoon to the inside of the bear canister is the plan

unfortunately I don't like to have anything around my neck so a dummy cord is out

I wasn't thinking bear canister, but keeping an emergency spoon in your pack, so you still have one when you're not in bear country

XL, look on the perfect spoon thread. You'll find links to all of the spoons ever discussed on TT.
