“And while I **don't know** when they'll do your ocean/hurricane-flood-prone-area maps, I do know they'll be doing the maps in the county that I cover VERY SOON.

FEMA is holding a "scoping meeting," looking at how things have changed since the last flood map was done (I don't know when that was).

I know rivers and streams do flood in the county, sometimes at big expense. But I'm wondering if they're doing this for hurricane-prone areas. Seems like there might be millions and millions more dollars damage there.

Then again, it's just a map. It's also true it's up to cities, counties and other jurisdictions to perhaps get houses out perennial flood zones that such maps usually outline... just an idea...

(damn and I can't spell "hurricane" either LOL)

It ain't just a map, local governments and Insurance folks use them to determine if you are in a flood plain...better see if you need flood insurance once the update is done!...”

“I think the 100 year flood plan has been increased in my area recently. It was 14 feet but I think it will soon be 19 feet. Those are feet above sea level for those of you that live on solid ground. This is scary to me if it indicates truely what is possible for my area. My downstairs floods at a little over 10 feet. Our highest flood on record here is 14.65 feet. I think these new figures are taking into account all the new construction in the area as well as storm surges from Katrina last year.”
