One-piece TearView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 17 of 17 messages posted.
“I practice the one-piece tear not only in the woods, but at home, too. Thus I have made it a habit and seldom forget to apply it. During my Spring Trip I bought a box of Lipton Green Tea, 40 bags, either in Bryson City or at Walmart in Sylva. I just opened the package to have tea instead of coffee this morning. What a happy surprise! The string attached to the tea bag has the other end attached to the paper container of the tea bag. This makes it a one-piece deal, which will eventually be in my trash container. And Lipton saves a little on the cost of those little tags that used to be attached to the string. May this mark the end of the little tea and coffee bag paper containers drifting around the campsites. Thanks you, Lipton.” 6:12:53 AM 9/01/06 “P.S. Closer inspection reveals that a small part of the bag can be removed and used as a tag at the end of the string by those who prefer the old method. But there is no need to do it.” 6:25:01 AM 9/01/06 “Ok, I'll bite. Just what is "the one-piece tear"?” 11:31:32 AM 9/01/06 “Thank you! I've been wondering all morning. My best guess is Nowslimmer makes a game of trying to get all packaging off in one piece.” 11:32:26 AM 9/01/06 “..........at first I thought it had to do with one sheet of TP, one tear, one wipe.........” 11:38:56 AM 9/01/06 “He gets one piece and sheds a tear....” 11:45:17 AM 9/01/06 “if i understand correctly, nowslimmer wipes his butt with the tea-bag labels on the end of the string” 11:55:47 AM 9/01/06 “Moon...got one a word visual for you...STAPLE” 11:57:05 AM 9/01/06 “A one-piece tear means that one does not tear pieces completely apart when opening something. Thus, only one piece remains as trash and there are no little scraps to drop and float around the campsite. I thought this was a backpacking forum. Ha, only one other backpacker appeared on this thread. last edited: 9/01/06 12:14:12 PM” 12:11:53 PM 9/01/06 “See, now I prefer the individually wrapped teabags that have little paper and foil packets. Then I can put all the trash into the little evelope they came in.” 12:50:23 PM 9/01/06 “Buy bulk tea and put it in a tea stringer. cleans out easy, no waste at all :) you get to mix your own flavors.” 12:55:52 PM 9/01/06 “Indiana John - Sorry, but no thanks. 1. easy cleaning vs. no cleaning. 2. Tea is tea and coffee is coffee. Don't need or want any of the fansy flavors that they are trying to sell the public. Those are for the ever-searching cocktail club folks!” 1:19:04 PM 9/01/06 “Nowslimmer, you dork, easy cleaning as in open it up and shake it once. Takes you that long to throw your paper away! I wasn't talking about flavored teas. I just meant you can put whatever kind of tea you want in it or mixture of a couple, say black tea and a little mint leaf or something. You can buy the same stuff that's in your lipton bag and it will probably taste better too.” 1:22:41 PM 9/01/06 “Hey now, there is more than one backpacker on this thread. I think.” 1:52:50 PM 9/01/06 “Indiana John - Sorry, but we're not together on this communication. This is the first time I've tried green tea. It tasted almost the same as regular tea. The point of the post was that the Lipton Green Tea Bags are attached to the bags in which they are packaged. I normally leave the tea bag in the cup until I am done. Then, like Fred Sanford, I can try for 2, or sometimes, 3 cups from one teabag. Actually, I would add another bag for each cup, but there is flavor remaining in previous bags. Then, when completely finished, all the tea bags with their wrappings go in my trash bag. Another point that I implied, is: I don't mix nothing with nothing! I don't even put mint leaves in the tea. BTW, I have served many a cup of Chinese restaurant tea, while working with my relatives in their restaurant during two years. The final point is that I'm getting too old to change. My backpacking routines work and I'm going to stick with them. However, I will consider bulk purchases, if and when my needs justify it.” 2:09:56 PM 9/01/06 “techntrek - I was tring to be nice. You can change my statement to "one other knowledgeable backpacker."” 2:15:54 PM 9/01/06 “I'm with ya, John. Enjoying a nice, afternoon cup of Earl Grey with Bergamot. Damn tasty stuff...” 5:42:21 PM 9/01/06
