These Days
I've been out walking...

And thinking about starting to do some fishing! I was wondering who knows of the best online sites to shop for fishing gear? I know there are a number of TT Fishin' peeps out there, so let me know what you think is your choice for the best online fishing gear, capiche?!?

If it's fly fishing your wanting to get into, go to The Fly Shop. The are just down the road from me and I'm told they are the best.

Cabela's seems pretty good. I don't know if they are the best, but I bought items from them and never had a problem. They were the only online retailer I've tried for fishing gear. I never bought rods or reels from them, but just waders, wading boots, line, fly tying materials and accessories of that nature. I bought my rods and reels from Orvis. Orvis sells online too, but the prices seem to be the same as their gear in flyshops so at least in the shop you can see what you are buying.

Capn,
If you want to drop the big bucks, go to www.orvis.com and www.hardyusa.com.

Have fun.

I have an ultralite two-piece Ugly Stik rod and a couple ultralite open faces. I pack the rod in an old tent pole bag/sleeve thing. I pack one of the reels in no particular stuff sack along with food, cosmetics, linemens climbing equipment - wherever.

My stuff is middle-to-top of the line Walmart product. It serves me well on the rare occasion I fishhike.

Maybe start with this.....

Gojo's suggestion about the Ugly Sticks is right on the mark.

St. Croix makes a very nice pack rod (4 pc) that retails for about 100 bucks but it doesn't have a case. Gander Mountain also has one sold under their own brand name that's about 70 dollars less and has a very thin clear plastic case. Reel sold separately for both.

It's pretty easy to find (or make) a suitable lightweight rod tube.

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish head
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

In the morning, laughing, happy fish heads
In the evening, floating in the soup

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

Ask a fish head anything you want to
They won't answer - they can't talk

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

I took a fish head out to see a movie
Didn't have to pay to get it in

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

They can't play baseball; they don't wear sweaters
They're not good dancers; they don't play drums

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

Rolly poly fish heads are never seen drinking cappuccino in Italian restaurants with Oriental women, yeah......

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly poly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up, yum!

I had intended to bury his remains as I would a pail of fish heads, but decided this was an occasion worthy of memorial. ''
