looks like the weather is going to be nice
I have to get out for a backpacking trip this weekend. It is a must.

I am thinking of finishing up the AT in Maryland. I need to do 23 miles from the PA state line to Alt. US 40. This is considered to be one of the easiest sections on the entire Appalachian Trail.

I am thinking about meeting at the South Mountain Inn on Alt. 40 and camping at the backpacker campsite on Friday night and then Saturday morning shuttling up to Penmar at the PA/MD line and backpacking 14 miles south to the Pogo Campsite.

On Sunday, I'd like to continue hiking south another 11 miles to Alt. US 40.

-

the other option is 15 mile section in NJ from Culvers Gap to Rt 23 near High Point. This would be a pretty easy weekend hike. Start at Culvers Gap and camp at Rutherford Shelter and finish at 23. Probably 10 miles on Saturday and 4-5 on Sunday. No camping on Friday night.

-

I am leaning towards the MD hike. Sign up if yer interested.

I promise this will not be a deathmarch. I just want to get out and enjoy the nice weather and knock out a section of the AT.

Vernal, the trail is your prescription. You should look into enerta meals. I'm not familiar with the south beach diet, but enerta meals are dehydrated, vegitarian and delish!

Head down to MD and hike with us this weekend. Where in PA are you?

Mark, that was some mud and muck we slogged through in Vermont this summer!!!

lol bobo (and lol Marko and slacka)

nah, I did the section from Alt 40 south to Harpers Ferry already. I love the view at White Rocks and also Weaver Cliffs. One day I want to do the 4 state challenge as a dayhike.. but may save that for the spring.

That'd be awesome if you can come.. maybe we can scare up some Blair Witch.

I don't care if I don't backpack, just dayhike or something. I need to get the flip out of here. I didn't get my spring break trip to the Smokies this past March, like a certain someone else did.

good weather this way comes. I plan on getting to the backpacker site on Alt 40 around 830-9. Parking is at the South Mtn Inn. We'll shuttle Saturday morning to Penmar and then hike south to Pogo campsite. It's just under 14 miles I think. Sunday the hike qill be 9 miles. The weather is looking awesome...!

Bobo, hope you can make it.

I dropped the boys off at Pen Mar at about 11:00 and they are south bound on the MD AT.

We had a nice time last night drinkin' beer and bangin' the hell outta some guitars in the moon light until the wee hours.

Bobo should be arriving home shortly.. We didn't get on the road until 9.

We finished hiking around 730. We hiked 9 miles Saturday and 14 miles today.

It was a little warm, but over all very nice.

It was quite an eventful trip.

YO!

I AM ALIVE!!!!!!!!

Great trip! Congrats to ENS for bagging all of the Maryland AT and for not getting eaten by the humungous timber rattler that was guarding the trail. It was an interesting little hoppity-dance you did!!!

Thanks to MarkO for flying in to provide the Friday night entertainmet and the car shuttle to Penn Mar was clutch. Had a blast hiking with EarthNSky and singing Beatles tunes along the way. My feet are alittle(!) sore this morning and I'm doing the bloody stump shuffle, I think I'll go down to the Nurses office and see if I can rent a walker!!!
