honeymoon hike for gonzo and jan chan??View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 26 of 26 messages posted.
late october.... “jan chan and i have decided to go ahead and jump into the waters of matrimony (i am confident that there will be no belly flops this time around!!) we will enjoy a proper honeymoon later (next year??) but we did want to get away for a couple of days and enjoy some gorgeous fall weather.... i thought i would solicit some ideas from you trailtalkers about an appropriate hike for a honeymoon (probably two or three days) followed by a relaxing night at a nearby (luxury??) hotel.... we are on a fairly tight schedule so this would have to be within a six hour drive of our central ohio digs.... what would you recommend???” 1:36:32 PM 9/11/06 When will this be? “I'd recommend Dolly Sods, WV. Make sure you include Dolly Sods North. There are no luxury hotels nearby but how about a modern cabin with Jacuzzi on the North Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River? (I hope I said that right.) last edited: 9/11/06 1:44:51 PM” 1:43:42 PM 9/11/06 “forgot an O” 1:44:33 PM 9/11/06 “great place mrhyker, but we have already hiked there once this summer....i was trying to come up with somewhere we haven't been yet.... maybe somewhere in the smokies??? or cranberry wilderness?? pennsylvania??” 1:47:09 PM 9/11/06 Cabins 1:51:24 PM 9/11/06 The Cranberry Wilderness ... “But I don't know of any hotels/cabins nearby. Here's a BP from my site: http://midatlantichikes.com/cranberry1.htm Another place that might surprise you is Canaan Mt. Great hiking and little foot traffic!” 1:54:58 PM 9/11/06 “The Quehanna trail is in PA. You can make a nice trip of that, then head back to Pittsburg for a night on the town?” 2:04:56 PM 9/11/06 “Don't know if it's too far. Hockings Hills/Nelsonville Ohio area is nice. We just did day-hiking and stayed in a "cabin" with a whirlpool that had sky lights. last edited: 9/11/06 2:53:35 PM” 2:50:50 PM 9/11/06 “gonzo - congratulations! I don't have any recommendations, but be sure to post pics and bring her out her for a future Sierra trek!” 3:02:54 PM 9/11/06 “mrhyker - there's Yokum's cabins right at the base of Seneca Rocks - driving to Dolly Sods is short that's where I stayed the 3 day weekend - nice place here's a pic: ”4:55:59 PM 9/11/06 “well you could go back to do the North Fork Mtn. Tr. again” 5:15:21 PM 9/11/06 Harman's VS Yokum's “Harman's is about 15 minutes closer to DS and a tad bit further off of the road. They're behind that big church on 55. Another good area is Seneca Creek Back Country.” 7:29:10 PM 9/11/06 “Gonzo and Jan, congratulations! When you do a longer honeymoon, come visit the wine country. We'd love to see you again.” 7:47:01 PM 9/11/06 “thanks, wannabp....we will definitely look you and jerry up when we get out to wine country.... hoi....the north fork mountain trail would be beautiful that time of year, for sure....certainly worth considering.... thanks, phil....i do hope to bring her out on a sierra adventure sometime....” 4:28:06 PM 9/12/06 “How about something on the North Country Trail in Michigan? A few TTers hiked the NCT / Manistee River Trail from Red Bridge a while back. It's about 20 miles RT if I recall correctly. :-) http://www.northcountrytrail.org/explore/guide/e4.htm It's not too far from the Traverse City Area-- Lots of wineries and the Sleeping Bear Dunes as well for some day hikes... Or, if you want to head back down the southwestern coast of MI, there's St. Joseph (which is a quaint little town on Lake Michigan)--and I understand, they may have some nice little places to stay there--nearby would be Paw Paw, MI and a "wine belt" in southwestern, MI, too... ;-) Hope this helps! :-) (I have some photos of the NCT/MRT hike on my webshots: http://community.webshots.com/user/pinkbubelz” 4:51:50 PM 9/12/06 hocking hills “jan chan graciously consented to become the bride of gonzo on october 22 at the robert rothchild farms in urbana, ohio....a good time was had by all (i can verify that gonzo had a good time!!)...following a post nuptial stay at the patrick house bed and breakfast, the newlyweds slipped away to the hocking hills for a few days of relaxation.... they stayed at a wonderful log cabin on forty secluded acres near old man's cave....they hiked the conkle hollow ridge, cantwell cliffs, trekked out to airplane rock, and made a luncheon trip to the moonville tunnel on the zaleski trail.... it was just wonderful....” 10:43:37 AM 11/03/06 “congratulations.” 10:45:53 AM 11/03/06 “Congrats! Photos????” 10:47:36 AM 11/03/06 “OOOOOOOH! Hooray! Congrats Jan and Gonzo. I hope you have many many years of happiness together. Very happy for you. =D You guys are a great couple.” 1:52:14 PM 11/03/06 “congrats” 3:24:48 PM 11/03/06 “Congratulations!!!” 4:41:21 PM 11/03/06 “Good for you guys! You two are a good match.” 4:45:49 PM 11/03/06 “Congratulations, also!!” 10:40:56 PM 11/03/06 “Congratulations!!!!! I hope you two can make it out West some time!” 3:00:27 AM 11/04/06 “That's cool news, makes me smile for you. Hugs to you both.” 7:34:00 AM 11/04/06 “Congratulations! What a perfect way to begin your new life together!” 3:43:44 PM 11/04/06
