ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Tag, you're out! Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable.

Recess is "a time when accidents can happen," said Willett Elementary School Principal Gaylene Heppe, who approved the ban.

While there is no districtwide ban on contact sports during recess, local rules have been cropping up. Several school administrators around Attleboro, a city of about 45,000 residents, took aim at dodgeball a few years ago, saying it was exclusionary and dangerous.

Elementary schools in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Spokane, Wash., also recently banned tag during recess. A suburban Charleston, S.C., school outlawed all unsupervised contact sports.

"I think that it's unfortunate that kids' lives are micromanaged and there are social skills they'll never develop on their own," said Debbie Laferriere, who has two children at Willett, about 40 miles south of Boston. "Playing tag is just part of being a kid."

Another Willett parent, Celeste D'Elia, said her son feels safer because of the rule. "I've witnessed enough near collisions," she said.

I remember when schools discouraged anything that wasn't physical during recess. Tag was about all I ever did then.

Getting cuts, scrapes, bruises and tearing a hole in your nice school clothes is a natural part of being a kid.

Let the kids play.

Sorry, never heard of him.

To his situation, he should have been through the process by now.

Being a former military person, and a supporter of this Administration, perhaps you could shed some light on why the American government is allowing pieces of crap like this to spin his wheels on my dime?

A bullet only cost a few cents.

Gotta Agree Laqtis.

In fact when we get down to it. My greatest dissappointment of this administration and the Republicans in general is how they are controlling the Military in combat.

A close friend of mine just got back and explained that there are Legal Advisors (like the old Political Officers of the Soviet Union) in every unit telling you what you can and cannot do.

I say the old tried and true method war crimes be used. If you win, you set the punishment for the opponents who lost.

Your repenting is duly noted, but you still didn't answer my question.

Why does the Administration allow it? I'd like to know the problems, and you should be a good source of telling us where the waste is.

So?

It amazes me that one guy can shoot his mouth off and people forget Abu Ghraib and the thousands of people blown to bits due to George's little misadventure.... not to mention all the people rounded up and executed by the current Iraqi Interior Ministry.

Breeding another (larger and more widespread) generation of terrorists ---- Way Ta Go, Guys! Remember that when the next 9-11 occurs: when, not if.

I suppose you remember why Bush/Cheney had these guys locked in prisons overseas? Tenet angrily denies they were tortured --- so the question presents itself: "Mr. Tenet, have YOU ever been water-boarded?"

According to the citation provided, Khan was just a wannabe, anyway:

"...Khan pledged to "martyr himself"..."

Maybe it was the wrath of Khan they were worried about.

ALOL..RIIIGHT Marky mark...you may have been doing the tub the day aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center (let me put this so you can understand REALLY BIG BUILDINGS IN New York) but this war is really no different than World War II. Except with the minor possibility that in World War II Republicans were patriotic and backed the President. Now Libbies are willing to throw our boys and girls away for their own personal political gain.....

I think this war is a lot different than WW II. At last I check, Hussain did not take over an entire continent and another nation did not bomb a naval base to hell.

I think the war started in Afganistan first. I could be wrong about that part though.

You are Right WK...in fact in 1936 Hitler had taken over diddly...but he invaded the Rhineland and no one did anything (the old let him have it he will be satisfied) the Japanese took Korea then China, then on and on.....Hitler took Rhineland, Austria, Czechoslovakia....and then when the world was faced with inevitable war it cost something like 60 MILLION lives to stop him.

LOL its the difference between putting the fire out early and breaking a few things or burning the place to the ground.

WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats have chosen an unlikely source to pay for the bulk of their proposed $35 billion increase in children's health coverage: people with relatively little money and education.

The program expansion passed by the House and Senate last week would be financed with a 156 percent increase in the federal cigarette tax, taking it to $1 per pack from the current 39 cents. Low-income people smoke more heavily than do wealthier people in the United States, making cigarette taxes a regressive form of revenue.

Democrats, who wrote the legislation and provided most of its votes, generally portray themselves as champions of the poor. They do not dispute that the tax plan would hit poor communities disproportionately, but they say it is worth it to provide health insurance to millions of modest-income children.

What was it I said years before and got so much gruff over?.... Oh yeah

"Socialist are PIGS who eat their own"

The great thing about this is the idiots this is hitting will still feel great because they will get the FREE GOVERNMENT MONEY (and the chains of government slavery) in the form of a health care system built on their backs.

Eventually three things will happen.
1. People will quit or cut back smoking.
2. The Tax, built on their habit will start to see money drop off.
3. The libbies will have to find a new way to fund their program.

I suspect you will see some new sin tax, combined with more restrictions on the health care.

XL, what are you complaining about?

People you don't like are self-funding a program you don't like?

Btw, I don't think many people are going to quit smoking because of this.
