I'll get details out on that (could possibly be a different unit of Yellow River OR Pikes Peak State Park, McGregor... or even BLOODY RUN!! MOOOOOOhahahahhahaaboooooooooo!) Route to be announced but, c'mon, ya know lizs plans mighty fine trips!! :-) This will include a moonlight hike Saturday night at Effigy Mounds National Monument. Bring along your headlamp and/or flashlight and be ready to hike in the dark. And you never know who you might run into in the woods!??!? Maybe a fur trader? Maybe a tobacco-chewin', stinky soldier of around the Civil War era?!??! Last year we heard about Zebulon Pike, early pioneer forays into the area, and how Native Americans were moved from the area. http://www.nps.gov/efmo/index.htm Date: October 7, 2006 Time: 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Details: Presented annually, these popular activities can include walks along the Yellow River Bridge Boardwalk Trail and hikes the along the Fire Point Trail to the top of the bluff. Effigy mound building culture, the impact of the historic settlement period and moonlit views of the Mississippi and Yellow River Valleys are  featured.  Call after Sept. 22, 2006 for specific information.                                                Moonlight Hike reservations are required and will be taken beginning on the preceding Monday (October 2nd). Call the visitor center for reservations . Fees: No Fee The FREE moonlight hikes look like they've been moved to start more in the late afternoon and continue into early darkness. We will need reservations for it, which I will take care of arranging with some of my favorite rangers there. Following that, we'll share our own tales around the campfire. Mooooooooohahahahaha!! The rest of the trip may take place in our usual haunts at Yellow River State Forest... or maybe some new haunts at YRSF. (Don't think you've seen it all!!) There is much hiking that could be done at Effigy Mounds, also, something like 7 miles in the North Unit and 4-5 miles in the South Unit. And many other parks, etc.” 10:02:46 PM 9/25/06 “another trip with Lizs; and I have to miss it?!?!? I have my kids, or I'd be there. Count me out... unfortunatly.” 9:07:08 PM 9/26/06 “why dont you plan something a little closer to Knoxville or why don't you go to Adena?” 9:26:47 PM 9/26/06 “ya' why don't you?” 9:34:08 PM 9/26/06 “ya never know” 11:31:00 AM 9/27/06 “I hope this works for us... We haven't used those brand spankin' new packs yet!” 11:52:13 AM 9/27/06 “Or the Jetboil!! ;-)” 12:00:22 PM 9/27/06 “...Or the fabulous new jetboil... thanks to some awesome friends!” 12:16:27 PM 9/27/06 You have fun on the trip as I'll be at homecoming “But I'll (oh wait and my wife)will be camping at Macbride recreation area this weekend. Not to be confused with Macbride State Park. There is a raptor recovery center there as well. Hopefully (that sounds bad as that means the bird has to be injured) there be a few birds around to see up close. There is primitave camping that is a short hike to get back to.” 12:26:49 PM 9/27/06 “Well drat! I'll be in camping in Missouri at that time, so I can't make it. Lizs does plan some mighty fine trips, so I hate to miss out.” 1:30:15 PM 10/02/06 “OK, hike is on hold. Found out Effigy Mounds is not doing the moonlight hike I hoped they were doing. They will go on top of the bluff, which is great if you've never done it, but I've done that a couple times before. elementary1, go take your painting class!!!! lol Now, what to do this weekend??? Hmmm????” 2:33:40 PM 10/04/06 << back to Hikin' Historical Hysterical TWO page
