New Cave Discovered

“A cave network with large passages and rooms — many more than 50-feet wide and some containing ancient animal skeletons — has been discovered within the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in central California, the National Park System announced.

“I've been spelunking 3x, and I've found that while definitely cool, it's like rock climbing: not a sport for big, heavy guys like me. I can remember multiple times where the 5'9" 160 pounders kept going deeper while my 6'3" 285 lb a$$ had to lay back and wait by myself trusting that they were indeed going to exit out the same way we came. I never got dicked, but it still kinda blew.”

“I've been getting underground a little over a year now, and I love it, it's such a neat and amazing world. The climbing is a little unnerving at times, but I am getting more comfortable on rope.
Unlike some, the tighter the better for passage, I love the squeezes. Wonder if that will make the "quotes" thread??”

“Same here on spelunking with Tango. My cave exploring best memory was somewhere in Arkansas, (was basically kidnapped by my boss) and I'm reasonably sure if it wasn't a private cave that we had at least entered a private entrance. No sign, no welcome center. Just an open field that we walked down to a fairly large opening. It's amazing how fast the air cools around you -- compounded by the fact it was night when we got there.

The highlight was splitting into groups, and after a fairly full day of hiking ended up in the same room -- one group (seen with our flashlights) a good 200' higher than other group. Used rope to haul packs up, the groups united.

Sleeping in total darkness is strange too, especially when you wake up in it also.

“This was an interesting story, but I found it annoying that the various officials kept talking about how it was one of the most beautiful caves ever discovered, yet they were going to see to it that basically no one outside of around a dozen researchers were ever going to be allowed to see it. I think it's great that it has a lot of scientific value, but why bother telling the rest of us how beautiful it is, then vow to lock it up forever?

BTW, I don't personally have any desire to go into it or any other cave, since I'm claustrophobic, but I'm sure lots of other people would like to see it. Heck, charge a big bag of cash to go see it to pay for whatever research you want to do.”
