Ice it also grows on the east west and south , but it doesnt grow on a rolling stone.
The moss deal (about north only ) only applies in places where there isnt much sun like rooftops or lone trees and rocks. Up in the Northwoods moss (and lichen)grows on EVERYTHING that is motionless. It is one of the most beautiful things to see. My favorite type is called "soldier lichen"

sorry I meant "is much sun" not isnt. The sun removes moisture that moss needs for growth. We have problems in our area with moss rowing on the North side of roofs. The actually sell strips of zinc to put on the north side of your roof, it will kill moss(which destroys shingles and holds h2o ruining your roof).
