I put a few strange things up on Webshots yesterday that I'd found cruising the internet... including an image of the Zappa poster I got on the Them or Us tour, <G> (the one with the One Oven Mitt á là Michael Jackson)

Today, unfortunately, I got a nasty email from Webshots about copyright infringement, LOL. They deleted the whole photo album, <grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr>

Man. Looks like the #&%!$'s about to hit the fan over there....

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.

I'm looking for a quote, either by the great john muir, or quoted by him in one of his books... somewhere along the lines of, You learn more by travelling poor.

I can't remember where it's from, anybody have any idea's?

SImmer190 --

There is a qute by Thoreau along those lines.

It has to do with traveling "the rails" to Fitchburg (a town near boston). Whether his friend is better off earning the price of the ticket and taking the train to get there, or, like Thoreau, simply walking the 30 miles and enjoying the trip for the trips sake.

let me google it.

yup . .from walden.

Google is god.

One says to me, "I wonder that you do not lay up money; you love to travel; you might take the cars and go to Fitchburg today and see the country." But I am wiser than that. I have learned that the swiftest traveller is he that goes afoot. I say to my friend, Suppose we try who will get there first. The distance is thirty miles; the fare ninety cents. That is almost a day's wages. I remember when wages were sixty cents a day for laborers on this very road. Well, I start now on foot, and get there before night; I have travelled at that rate by the week together. You will in the meanwhile have earned your fare, and arrive there some time tomorrow, or possibly this evening, if you are lucky enough to get a job in season. Instead of going to Fitchburg, you will be working here the greater part of the day. And so, if the railroad reached round the world, I think that I should keep ahead of you; and as for seeing the country and getting experience of that kind, I should have to cut your acquaintance altogether.

Hi,

My name is Tarp Rat...

I have been on this board since it began... I started many a thread and helped many people with choosing the right gear (TNF). And I left the board in 2001 because many of the threads became racist after 9-11 and I felt that I no longer wanted to associate with these people. I recently came back and started to voice my opinions about the current crisis in Iraq. I know many people disagree with me, and that's fine! However, I should be allowed to state my views just as everyone else. I was recently banned from the board, my IP disabled. I was told this was because of my off-topic posting, but this is a false claim because the threads I was posting to were completely off topic and unrelated to backpacking in the first place. I just wanted to say that this is unfair. Have a nice day… and let the games begin!

Looks like I win...

Have fun freely debating your biased views and hanging out your destructive laundry. I am no longer welcomed here and I no longer seek the webmasters welcome. Someone can’t take criticism and can’t admit they were wrong.

NOTE: Remember we are all pathetic and worthless, and not unlike a maggot on a wound, humans are destroying the earth. It would be to the earths benefit if we parish. Remember this the next time you get in your car and head to work. You are trying to build something out of nothing. You are nothing, you only exist in your own mind, and you have most likely never fully comprehended or accepted your eventual demise. Think about it tonight… just imagine yourself gone. Feel free to cry, fully embrace it until you become immune. For it is a wonderful thing not to exist… it is something you should cherish. You can now walk into the woods knowing that it doesn’t matter if you come out… you are no more important than the road kill you pass on the road. Say hi next time you drive by, and realize that it was you. No funeral necessary. OM MANI PADME HUM!
