Crash my problem with the "Educators" comes with the fact that far too often they see the school as their "Private Empire" and when it comes to reality in their little world they jump to conclusions too quickly and with poor information.

Government Schools are the worst. And I cannot tell you of the horror stories of the Government Drones who will call DFACS or what not at the drop of a hat.

If you are complicit in bullying, then yes. And often educators are aware and do nothing, or punish victims for fighting back, which only promotes more bullying.

Bullies in school I believe' are usually the product of their own families attitudes to life. I do not believe complaining to schools , educators or the powers that be will ever do any good.
Turn up at the child's Fathers place of work and call him out.
Sort your kid out or I will be here every day to embarrass the crap out of you in front of your colleagues until you do.
Things will change.

To be truthful its pretty much a chicken or egg thing. If parents were held responsible for the way their little monsters behave and teachers were able to control the enviornment better we could attract people of Crash's caliber. This would make for better schools...(I DO AGREE ON THIS!)

But (and I am hoping crash will actually respond on this) we send brats to school, and when they get in trouble from being jerks the momma and baby daddy show up and threaten left and right.

So we end up losing people of Crash's quality (and off the thread I know of crash and truly WISH I could get a hundred of him to teach down here). And we end up with dregs.

thats just it. im no expert, but in my opinion, parents are the CAUSE of bullying. itll be a cold day in hell before they hold their little snots accountable

Crash...we have talked a lot and to be truthful I do respect your desire to go teach...(even though you did spend that time in Korea teaching Korean "bad english" as a prank (LOL))

I wonder if we made "assault on a teacher" the same as assault on a public safety officer...if that would change the little monster's and their parents?

we live in the age of blame. whenever anything bad happens, people immediately look to point the finger. I think this is pretty clear in the way many people raise kids. Whenever Jr. does something wrong, it's automatically someone else's fault, never Jr's, and never the parents. This may be worse where I'm at (southern california) than other places, but it's pretty awful here.

wish I knew the solution. maybe there isn't one

I don't know pepsi, all I know is that there are WAAAY to many people wanting to avoid responsibility for bad decisions.

It gets bad around middle school (from what I have seen) and the alternative schools are often no better than babysitting services.

The sad thing is that most of these kids have nothing they can point to and say "I did that" (positive)

Ref crash....

So the Pastor of a church drops by a house to do a "Welcome to the community visit".

A little boy answers the door and the Pastor asks to speak to his parents.....

"Sorry they are busy eating ice cream in the bedroom, I think." answers the boy.

When asked why he thinks that the boy answeres,'I just heard daddy say, Oh go ahead and eat it before it gets soft."

unless there's some sort of underlying physiological issue, how could it be jr's fault?...jr knows what he's taught, whether it's by mommy and daddy or someone else

i believe making an example of the child AND the parents before the whole school will certainly give cause for thought with parents and child alike. What parent would like to have to stand before a whole school and be identified as the knowing parents of a bully. I feel sure the child at home would sure be warned off for bullying to prevent any appearance of those parents in front of everyone. And hey publish them in the local papers. The fear of becoming social pariahs would sure make parents sit up and be aware of the problem

Brit...UM sadly most of the parents of these kids are no better than other attention whores.

I worked a case on a life long (I am talking from 10 years old on) criminal. Cuz was 36, he had spent from 10-18 in and out of juvenile detention. and from 19-36 in and out of prisons. He knew WHAT crimes to commit to get sent where he wanted.

His Mother and some "Reverend-Apostle" something or another came and made a public spectacle of how he was misunderstood....I am betting he had his failures supported his WHOLE life.

Brit do you seriously think the parents of the bully kids would even show up at the school or much less care what anyone thinks of them? I seriously doubt its the country club scene they belong to. And I doubt the kid would care whether or not his parents get in trouble...

Ok so they do not turn up! paste them all over the local papers. Confrontation is a bully's worst nightmare. A bit like some of the antagonists here on the TT.

Nah...they eventually get theirs.

We had a bully in 3 rd through 7 th grade who was a real dweeb. Then in 8th grade we got this new kid in school from "Da Bronks"..his father was an attorney who had moved to Dallas.

Bully approaches "Bronks" and asks for "lunch money" Bronks looks at him and decks him...LOL

despite your scoffing, it really is important for SOMEONE to get thru to this kid. to understand. he may very well feel like he is all alone. him against the world. possibly due to neglect and/or abuse.

BUT AT THE SAME TIME

you hold him accountable for his actions

i dont know why everyone thinks it has to be one or the other. you can try to understand and show you care about a poorly behaving child AND hold him or her accountable for their actions. holding them accountable IS caring, altho the juvenile in question may not see it that way

So I volunteered to help chaperon a bunch of 3rd graders on a field trip to Daniel Stowe botanical gardens tomorrow. Whee!

My daughter's teacher very likely won't be going; she's probably having emergency surgery tonight for a hernia that popped out this afternoon. Yikes. I spoke with her briefly as she bolted from the school.
