The Whites-NH

“My husband and i are planning a 2 night trip to the WMNF. It will be our firts overnight trip in the Whites. We have camped in the backcountry throughout NE however. We are just hoping to get some suggestions for an easy hike-in, with a place we can make our base camp for the 2 nights. we will not be arriving until about 5pm on friday afternoon though, so we need to choose something pretty reasonable. We are thinking of the pemi east trail. Are there places along the way to the franconia brook tenstite that we could set up camp? Also, are there any special permits needed for this area? We are really just looking for a relaxing weekend in the Whites with decent trail options. Any suggestions are very much appreciated! We want to avoid a campground at all costs if possible!
