Are they also Kosher? What about trans fats?

I do believe they are kosher. No cloven hooves.
I'm not sure about trans fats, but I can assure you they are a very lean red meat. They can be prepaired in nearly an infinite number of ways including tartar, roast, ground burger, and grilled steaks. They go excellent with the seasoned asparagus, and loaded baked potato. If you would like I could bring out a selection of merlots for your tasting pleasure while the chef prepairs your selection.

*shaking head sadly*
Cloven hooves _are_ kosher. But only if the critter chews it's cud. I do not believe vegans are classifed with ruminants. Therefore they would not be kosher unless they are fish or fowl. Since there are distinct categories regarding kosher for fish and fowl, unless the vegan is specificaly refered to in the dietary law as "clean" (which I do not believe it is) then one would be wise to consider it _non-kosher_.

Personally I use leather gear that has been made from cattle who lived a long and full life and then committed suicide.

Vegan means they come from Vegas.

Seriously if its Vegan it means it was made without any animal products whatsoever.

Vega (α Lyr / α Lyrae / Alpha Lyrae) is the brightest star in the constellation Lyra.

So Vegans must be aliens.

technically I think vegan is undoable. Some where along the way an animal has to be utilized in some manner to get the product to market. What about the truck that hauls the stuff to market that hit a furry criter on the road. Does that count in "getting the product to market"? Or what about all those bugs that hit the windshield of the truck? Or, what about the termite shield that was sprayed on the foundation of the building while it was being built?
Vegan is a nice thought--still undoable in our society.

Technically, you would never know it if you met a true liberalist. Everything you do or say would be accepted and not argued against.

At the risk of trashing this thread ...
... and coming from a country that proudly conks baby seals ...

I believe vegan clothing to be a crock invented by urban individuals who believe that vegetables grow in plastic wrap in the supermarket.

Even if you don't believe in climate change affected or unaffected by human industrial activity, the idea of using non-renewable resources to create the plastics to replace natural products is patently insane.

LOL@ Gremlin! Grem one of my in-laws is RATHER PETAish if you get the drift. For Christmas one year I gave her son (6 at the time) a stuffed seal and a baseball bat...the kid got a kick out of konking it on the head and the Dad laughed his A$$ off at it. Mom has barred me from any further presents.

People who buy the vegan footwear (intentionally) would probably say that factory farming (which most likely produced the leather used in other hiking boots) IS an example of "human industrial activity," and that making synthetic footwear wouldn't harm the environment any more than that does, while having the benefit of not taking life.

Footwear that doesn't produce pollution, such as that made out of hemp, would obviously be the best solution, but that doesn't seem like it would be a great material for hiking boots, so vegans probably feel that by wearing plastic at times, they're choosing the lesser of two evils.

If you personally feel that synthetics shouldn't be used, then what is your tent and your jacket you use while backpacking made out of??
;-)

Also, having personally been a vegan in a former life, I can say that if you feel strongly that you're making a positive change for the environment overall by being a vegan, then buying one non-vegan thing is dangerous. It's a slippery slope, like being an alcoholic and having "just one drink"...LOL! Pretty soon you'll be up to your eyeballs in a bowl of ice-cream, ahhhh!!

How can you do ANYTHING that does not produce some sort of pollution?
XL400236

I know, it seems about impossible! The best we can do is to do as little harm as possible. There's no need to demean people who are just doing the best they can with their resources.

I do agree that a lot of vegans live in urban areas and don't have personal experience with hunting and gardening and otherwise liveing off ye olde land. haha. But instead of feeling insulted and/or threatened by their life choice, you should be glad that some people who have access to mainly just factory-farmed or mass-produced animal-based products choose not to use them, thus cutting down on the waste and pollution for everyone. If you're able to hunt/produce your own food, then you're doing your own part to produce less waste & pollution in your own way. A lot of vegans who live in urban areas don't understand that, I'm sure, and feel insulted and/or threatened by your life choice, as well...no doubt.

An observation of life in general, not reflected here --- :)

Having been raised vegetarian, but not vegan, I think there is a significant difference between offering and producing a vagan alternative and insisting that anyone who chooses to wear leather, eat meat, wear wool or whatever is a barbaric neandrathal.

Also.. those who act upon their own convictions and wear hemp footwear, which I understand is remarkably durable, are entitled to not be cast with those who go around throwing blood on other people's fur coats. (The most interesting case of which involved a synthetic coat.)

I am not longer vegetarian, and even farther from vagan. (The slippery slope claims victims all the time.)
