Ultralight Sleeping Bags “I'm thinking about buying an ultralight sleeping bag - something less than 2 pounds. The Valandre Mirage or the Western Mountaineering Ultralight Super both looked good. Any opinions or other recommendations?” 2:41:25 PM 10/07/06 “If you roll in your sleep and sleep on your side beware of the WMUL's very tight fit in the upper body. In fact if you're big in the upper body try one first.” 3:13:07 PM 10/07/06 “You didn't say what temp range, I have a MH Phantom 32 I use in summer, I really like it!” 3:23:41 PM 10/07/06 “rei has the Phantom 15 on super sale. $239.00 for the regular. Regularly 330.00” 4:33:01 PM 10/07/06 “Thanks for the responses. I was looking at bags in the 20 degree range.” 7:09:57 PM 10/07/06 “Marmot Helium is a 15 degree bag weighing a little less than 2#. Cost varies from $270 to $360, depending on where you buy it and sales, etc.” 7:14:47 PM 10/07/06 “check ccoutdoorstore.com” 7:18:24 PM 10/07/06 “Nimbleweiner is a lightweight bag.” 7:45:05 PM 10/07/06 “nimble honey...I am very upset with you, but I still love ya. ;)” 7:48:21 PM 10/07/06 “OH what the heck. I have a LaFuma 32 down bag. Killer warm, I have been really happy with it. Got it from ccoutdoorstore.” 7:49:18 PM 10/07/06 “Look at the specs for any bag you might purchase and see how wide it is at the shoulders and hips. Many mftrs reduce weight in "ultalight" bags by making them narrower (less fabric and filler). If you're not lean, you'll compress the insulation to nothing, and loose warmth. I bought a wider cut 30F bag and use my extra clothes for added warmth - so far this strategy has kept me warm at 20F.” 11:00:05 AM 10/08/06 Marmot Helium! “This is the stuff! Great pack, roomy for a wide body, warm!” 11:09:27 PM 10/15/06 “I broke down and bought the Moonstone Lucid. Although they were bought out Columbia is honoring their waranty. $209 delivered for a sub 2 pound 20 deg bag.I should get it Tuesday.” 6:23:57 AM 10/16/06 “i am in love with my new Western Mountaineering MegaLight bag. i just got it the other day. i got the overstuffed version. i think the continuous baffles are a key feature. I have the marmot hydrogen and it's sewn-though design is it's weak point in my opinion. I liked that sleeping bag but i like the WM bag more at this point. i have a marmot atom as well and love that sleeping bag.” 8:12:20 AM 10/16/06
