Would Grivel Spider crampons be adequate
for crossing frozen seeps on rock in
Southern Appalachians?

Specifically I'm inquiring about their use
for the Boulevard trail up to Mt. LeConte.

Unless your actually climbing get a good set of lightweight Cramps. Kahtoolas are good and the Stubia Ultralights have done well for me.

I thought those were those things that girls used when they had cramps.

I've backpacked to Mt. le Conte and back in the winter. For crossing frozen seeps on rock, I just sat down and slid on my butt.

Normally when someone gets Crampons I use Immodium.

I hiked up LeConte using BD 12-point crampons. It was very icy that day, some idiots hiked it up without crampons, they had to turn around. If you fall on certain areas, you'll fall deep.

not sure if the grivel spiders would've been enough, I was glad for my BD's.

if you decide to use the spiders I would love to hear how they worked for you.

I don't know the spiders, but in the Dacks I need front points when it gets steep. The Kahtoola's wouldn't work for me.

I have to agree with Gremlin. The front points have saved me on more than one occasion. Although I still haven’t found a good solution for the in between times of fall and spring where there isn’t enough ice to warrant full crampons, but enough that you want something on your feet especially that 1/8” - 1/4” veneer ice.

Did you guys see the other thread where a woman used a baby as a crampon?

I heard they don't work too well unless they stay in a feetal position.

"I heard they don't work too well unless they stay in a feetal position.”

Now that was absolutely cunning and briliant! LOL!
