“I was just thinking about the plan for Saturday. Is this it? - break camp from South Meadow, drive down to the Round Pond parking area, backpack to the Boquet lean-to area, establish camp, and dayhike to Dix, Hough and back?? If so, that sounds like a very long day. Break camp, driving, getting backpacking gear ready, setting up camp and THEN the hike?

Would it be more feasible to get up Saturday, leave camp as is, drive to the Round Pond parking area, dayhike, return to the car, perhaps celebrate in Lake Placid and return to South Meadow for another night?

Of course, if I am all wet about the Saturday plan........ never mind.”

True, but South Meadows is within the eastern HPW. You could probably get away with storing food in the trunk of a car, but it might be good to have a canister or two on hand in case a ranger happens to stop by. They are no longer warning people and are writing $250 tickets.”

I have a bear can.. we should have enough for the group between us. I agree with zac, probably won't hurt to atleast have them in case a ranger stops by. We can pull out the trusty bearcan(s) and say, we're good and they go away.”

Exactly what I was getting at. I meant a couple of canisters for the entire group, not per person.”

“Last time I was in Lake Placid EMS was renting BEAR CANS for a $5 flat fee.

BEER CANS on the other hand, were easily had at the Tops about a mile further up the main drag, just at the edge of town. Personally, my preference was for BEER BOTTLES, especially since they stock LONG TRAIL ALE at Tops.”
