Hike on!
First hike in nearly two years, recovered from disc surgery, and lovin' the untralight lifestyle. A small but fun mountain - foliage was unbelievable!

It really is a great area. Did you do more than just Camel's Hump?

I was sweatin' my keister off on The Hump this past July 2.

The visibility was limited due to extreme haze and humidity.

I had to crawl the last 100 yards to the top of that rock this past August. The 100mph wind gusts above treeline were enough to knock me off my feet. I'd like to go back on a nice weather day.

It's a great hike. I can imagine it would be gorgeous on a fine autumn day.

And congrats on getting back on the trail. The trail is great thing for motivation to recover and adapt.

I know about those winds lumberzac. I nearly got blown off my feet there myself.

The best part of the trip was when my buddy (who was leading) turned around after we got above treeline and shouted that maybe this wasn't such a great idea after all. The look of dread on his face was priceless.

Yep.

For an unforgetable hike try the 30+- miles from Lincoln Gap to just north of Camel's Hump (River Rd?). You spend almost half your time above treeline and it doesn't get much traffic except for the major peaks.

I thought this thread was about crazed camels having rampant sex in the northeast.....probably with Lyra's monkeys.

Actually The Camels Hump is a dance from the days of dance crazes in the '60s.

According to the GMC guide for the Long Trail, the name Camel’s Hump came about because people felt that the old name of the mountain, which was closer to the actual profile shape, was too crude. The original name was Camel’s Rump. I thought it smelled kind of funny up there.

I do believe it was also called "The Couching Lion" at one time.

The profile does suggest that.
