“I've been busy so haven't had to many chances to post. While I was gone last weekend watching Iowa get their teeth kicked in by Indiana my wife was out picking up a dog. A Lab / coonhound mix. About 50 lbs and white with black patches and roughly a year old. We named him Cooper and he already knows some basic commands and is house broke. I start training classes with him this Monday. I'll post a picture once I get one uploaded. For now I have to get back to work (yes I'm working on a weekend)” 12:00:11 PM 10/21/06 “My dog ran away last night. Hopefully I can find her when I get home tonight, or even better maybe one of my neighbors will catch her and bring her home. They are nice like that.” 12:03:21 PM 10/21/06 “I hope so meangreen” 12:16:10 PM 10/21/06 “Good luck meangreen. The worst day of my life is when my dog got loose. Fortunately, that was also the best day of my life, when he came back. Congrats Flasher!” 12:21:16 PM 10/21/06 “it must be the week for getting new buddies. Classes are the best thing I ever did with my dog.” 12:23:24 PM 10/21/06 “I would love to do them with mine. Is it ever too late to start them? She is about 4.” 12:42:48 PM 10/21/06 “Nope its never to late. Petsmart has classes for older dogs.” 12:46:06 PM 10/21/06 “Cool! Thanks. Lately I have been thinking of taking her on the trail to see how she does. She is pretty high strung being a boxer/beagle mix, but a real sweety. When my youngest daughter was about a year old she started taking naps on the dog on the couch. She has always been great with little kids. Very gentle.” 12:55:01 PM 10/21/06 “Congratulations! It's never too late for classes - I took my husband's dog to classes at Petsmart when he was 9 years old, and he had a great time. It was mostly for me to bond with him and to get his Canine Good Citizen certificate, b/c he was already pretty well-behaved, but it was fun and he did learn some new things. I hope your dog comes back, meangreen!” 1:35:11 PM 10/21/06 “Thanks Bess. I'm sure she will. She never goes too far, she just likes to go say "Hi" to all the neighbor dogs and find something really foul to roll in. LOL! My biggest concern is cars really, and most folks drive slow in my area so that helps.” 2:06:26 PM 10/21/06 “I'll be looking back here for the good news meangreen. Good luck! And congratulations REFD!” 2:12:47 PM 10/21/06 “LOL...one night I took the pups out front for a potty run. I came back in and got started on dinner. The family comes home and are they angry. The 100lb Chessie ( Who I thought had come back in) had been obediently sitting at the front door as people walked by. My female chessie...will go a max of one house away (she is around 13) then she wants back home, back on HER carpet....” 3:01:19 PM 10/21/06 Molly “ I have had Molly for 12 days now, and today was Molly's first day on the trail! last edited: 10/21/06 7:47:43 PM” 7:46:37 PM 10/21/06 “Oh, look! Molly's a genuine mudpuupy!” 9:22:13 PM 10/21/06 I found my doggie! “Well, actually someone else found her. I drove around town for an hour last night (which is saying something because "town" is only a mile wide in any direction)and caught a VFD meeting just letting out so I asked all the folks there if they had seen her, and to keep an eye out, then managed to stop the town marshal and as I was giving him the info one of the firemen who is also an employee of the town drove up ant told us he had found her, and she was chained up out at the sewage plant. So I followed the marshal out there, and there she was looking very scared, and very happy to see me. She was all over the place when I put her in the car. LOL! Back seat, front seat, my lap, back seat. She was really thirsty when I got her home but other than that, and a small cut on the top of her head (probably from trying to say Hi to one of the many stray cats) she was fine. I am very fortunate for so many small blessings.” 7:48:03 AM 10/22/06 “That is so awesome meangreen! Sounds like she was as happy to see you as you were her.” 12:18:30 PM 10/22/06 “Cool beans greenmean. Cooper and I start training today. Over the weekend we started introductions with Mimm our cat. Well needless to say Cooper didn't eat Mimm but it will be a slow process getting them to like one another. I still owe you all a picture.” 8:03:07 AM 10/23/06 “Man that is good news Mean...Fireman huh? Many years ago I had a Chessie who went for an overnight lark. It rained and in the morning she was on the front porch looking VERY APOLOGETIC.” 8:13:31 AM 10/23/06 “Glad to read the news mg!” 8:15:37 AM 10/23/06 “Yer reeker! I culd get a werk at Petstore teechin kids (and grode ups to I gess) how to get good manners. I bet they pay verry good snaks! BWT - If I culd teech my hubsand Gissmaeioux good manners I can do perty good enny wher! BOL!” 11:59:02 AM 10/23/06 “Meangreen, glad you found her. That must have been scary. I took Molly in the woods for the first time on Saturday, and she had a blast running off leash and splashing in the river. At one point, I walked ahead of her while she was sniffing something. When I called her, she got confused and took off running the opposite direction--back towards the road, where we came from, and she is clueless about cars. I had just a few seconds to worry before she came running back towards me, but it is a mildly panicky feeling.” 12:40:59 PM 10/23/06 “Wow, his eyes reflect blue! He's got some gams! What is he?” 8:36:52 PM 10/25/06 “I am going out on a limb here...but I am thinking a dog?” 8:48:03 PM 10/25/06 “The humane society said he is part Lab part walker coonhound” 10:14:22 PM 10/25/06 “A long time ago when my family had a mixed German Sherpard, she was missing for about a week....we lived in a semi-poor area...so all neigbourhood dogs were running loose. Anyways she came back to us...abit skinnier too. Later on we found out from a neigbour that some guy had tried to collar our dog a few weeks earlier but did not succeed. Our neigbour didn't tell us earlier because he didn't know that we lost our dog. We surmised that the dog thief wanted some "reward" when/if we ever posted "reward posters". But we never did....and he ended up having to feed our dog for a week...probably table scraps....and pick up after her. SUCKER!!!!!” 11:54:47 PM 10/25/06 “Nice looking dog! I'm partial to poka dot dogs. He almost looks part english pointer.” 7:16:13 AM 10/26/06 “Sass I would agree with you on that part. When he's in the backyard and see's a rabit he'll stop stare and pick his front paw up just like a pointer.” 7:44:53 AM 10/26/06 “Molly and I had an interesting experience last night. It was dark and we were about two miles into our evening walk. This is in a residential area with sidewalks, we were actually between two different developments and on the sidewalk under the power lines, so there are of course undeveloped fields under the lines. I saw some kind of large bolder or tree stump or something that I hadn't noticed before, maybe six feet off the sidewalk and just at the edge of the tall weeds. As it turned out, we stood there for a full three or four minutes, six feet away from a full-grown deer. I was talking to her gently, Molly was frantically trying to get loose from the leash and go say hello. She looked at us, but she never did flinch, never ran. We eventually walked away. Weird, but cool.” 8:33:30 AM 10/26/06 “I came very close to acquiring a puppy today. I was flying up I 95 near Walterboro, SC and I saw a tiny black lab puppy wandering in the grassy median. I'm still kicking myself for not stopping, but to do so at that moment would have caused quite a wreck. She looked like a "Harper" to me. Dangit dangit dangit...” 1:50:05 PM 10/26/06
