One of the concerns I have heard expressed about eating crow is the possibility of their having eaten carrion.

Crows can be natural scavangers and as such may carry some things that might be harmful to humans

I've never physically eaten a crow. I did hunt them when I was younger though. They make really good bait for catfish. I also used them for bait when I trapped racoons and mink for their fur. Crows really stink so I doubt they would taste very good. The meat is really dark and smells strong. I guess that is why they are good bait.

The shooting of crows is legal year round in Louisiana and electronic calls can be used. You will see hundreds of crows with an electronic call.

If you ate crow, wouldn't that be like eating the souls of the dead? That can't be good.

I used to hunt crows years and years ago and it was fun.

BTW, they are classified as migratory birds and are protected by international (US/Canada/Mexico) treaty. It is a good idea to verify seasons.

We used to find a tree that served as a rookerey and put an owl decoy (stuffed at the time - illegal now - but plastic ones can now be bought) on a pole. A couple of calls later we would be popping away all morning.

My former brother-in-law's dad who was Austrian said the only two things he never could eat (he had stories) after the war were fox and crow.

That being said, I saw a man on US TV who said they can be eaten after marinading in Coca Cola.

Tell me how it turns out.

I never passed up a chance to shoot crow but now I pretty much only kill what I’m gonna eat so I see no reason to hunt crow now.
