The Hiking Season Draws Near
Yes! The cold nights have arrived. The children are back in school. Hunting seasons are drawing to a close. The trails are nearly mine, all mine. Oh what shall I do with my time when the trails become all mine.
I can hike up or I can hike down,
I can hike any trail around.
I can hike near or I can hike far,
I can hike after work or hike as I leave the bar.
I can hike Monday, Tuesday and day of the week.
I can hike any trail I want from valley to peak.
Oh what will I do with all of my time
When all of the trails have finally become mine.
It is my favorite time of the year,
My pack, My dog and Two Bottles of Beer.

I consider the 3 seasons other then summer, my hiking seasons also. I also prefer mid-week over weekends to avoid the chance encounter.

I like hiking in the spring and fall best due to the cooler temperatures, but tend to hike and backpack the most in the summer. I seem to have more free time then. In winter I mostly dayhike when I'm not ice fishing.

Hunting seasons are drawing to a close.

Not around here... it's an ongoing thing. I think gun season for deer in Wisconsin starts in about three weeks.

I dont hike as much in the summer due to the heat and bugs, but deer season will be starting soon around here and soon I will have to stay out of the woods for three weeks which sucks.

No kidding, Jimmy. Every time I drive through Wisconsin in the fall, I see more hunters from the highway than signs for cheese.

Ruby, I think my trip to marengo river/porcupine lake in two weeks is the LAST WEEK BEFORE RIFLE SEASON starts... hint, hint...

I'll check it out, but it's not looking good. Haven't been out since May and am feeling it.

But I will be in Fall Creek, Wisconsion over the long Thanksgiving weekend with the whole fam damily. We rent out all of the Beaver Creek Reserve and celebrate Christmas. Not exactly camping since we have cabins, but closer than I've been to camping in a long time. Hoping for snow.

I will not hike in the summer here in the south. Ticks, chiggers, opressive heat... no thanks. I'll go the rest of the year. Like this weekend!
