big agnes pomer hoitView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 18 of 18 messages posted.
Anyone have the Pomer Hoit? “I'm narrowing down my options for a new bag. Of course, I've considered Feathered Friends, Western Mountaineering and such, but I'd like to find something a little cheaper. Two options are the Big Agnes PomerHoit 0 http://www.bigagnes.com/str_bags.php?id=ph The other is EMS Mountain Light 0 http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_vertical.jsp?STYLE_GROUP%3C%3East_id=1408474396003150&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302875912&bmUID=1162283040500 Anyone have any pros/cons to the above?” 9:24:13 PM 10/31/06 “I've been looking at the PomerHoit. All specs are better on it (comparing the smaller PomerHoit to the women's EMS bag you linked to) including price. With the BA you can put a pad inside to keep from rolling off.” 9:29:35 PM 10/31/06 Hmm.. womens? “Funny - I didn't notice that small detail! If I dont get out on the trail soon, the womens bags will probably fit my hips better !” 10:00:57 PM 10/31/06 “I have a big agnes zirkel. I adore it. Have had it for three years now and it's wonderful. The sleep system rocks.” 6:18:26 AM 11/01/06 “I have the EMS Mountain Light 20. It packs small, lofts well and is close to its temp rating for this cold sleeper. Based on my experience with the 20, I think the ML bags are decent for the money, espeically if you catch one during EMS periodic 20% off sales.” 8:15:00 AM 11/01/06 “Just ordered myself one of these off REI.com - all Big Agnes products are 25% off through 9/5 and as much as I love my beast of a Kelty synthetic bag, it did start feeling heavy by the end of the trip...” 2:16:09 PM 9/01/11 “Hope you're not a side sleeper.” 3:48:41 PM 9/01/11 “I'll take sleep in any way I can find it - I hear most down mummy bags are hell on a side sleeper” 4:27:36 PM 9/01/11 “Got it in the mail yesterday (REI took FOREVER to ship it) and, as much as one can tell without actually using it, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. The lack of insulation on the bottom seemed really weird to me, but my thermarest fits right into the built-in sleeve on the bottom of the bag and covers the big empty spot. It's been in the 90s here all week, so I couldn't tell you how warm it actually feels, but all the reviews indicate it's a damn warm bag. I crawled in on the kitchen floor and tried rolling around - as much as one can move around in a mummy bag, I was able to. Also, having the thermarest attached to the bottom, the bag didn't twist around like a typical mummy bag does if you roll around too much It's ridiculously light and packs up about as small as my REI sub kilo (*with* the thermarest deflated and rolled up with it). I'll be taking it out in a couple weeks into moderately cold weather (though it's likely to stay above freezing), so I'll have a little better review after that, but so far I'm a happy camper” 8:58:01 AM 9/13/11 “What's it rated?” 9:12:15 AM 9/13/11 “0 degree” 2:14:49 PM 9/13/11 “Sounds good. So it's sorta like a quilt, which I will probably be movin to for my next bag...” 2:17:41 PM 9/13/11 “yeah, there's a big section of the bottom of the bag around the torso area that has absolutely no insulation - just the nylon. Seems really weird and exposed, but I guess from every review I read, it works just awesome” 2:44:23 PM 9/13/11 “What's the total weight of the bag?” 3:17:57 PM 9/13/11 “2 lbs, 8oz” 3:20:57 PM 9/13/11 “Had a chance to try my new bag out for the first time this weekend. Granted, it stayed above freezing, but only barely... It's tough to roll over in the bag because your air mattress is attached to the bottom in a sleeve... I had a couple awkward moments where I ended up half sideways in my tiny solo tent and had to struggle to right myself for a few minutes. However, as long as you're careful when you roll over, it stays put. As for warmth, like I said, it was only just above freezing - but holy crap that's a warm bag. I can't wait to get out somewhere real cold with it now. I was paying extra close attention to the lack of insulation on the bottom, seeing if I could find any cold spots or drafts. It takes the air mattress a little longer to warm up than the rest of the bag, so you do get a cold spot on the bottom for a few minutes after getting in. Once you're in though, provided your air mattress fits into the sleeve on the bag, it seems pretty seamless. I was shifting a lot and feeling around, trying to make a cold spot - nada. Real cozy and warm. so in short, great bag.” 9:32:34 AM 11/02/11 “I like this bag too...even better in a hammock with underquilt. Just make sure you get the left zip if you're in a blackbird.” 9:42:18 AM 11/02/11 “I bought the Big Agnes Moon Hill 0 degree down bag off SteepandCheap a few months ago for about $125. And I just ordered the BA Sand Mountain insulated mummy pad from REI-outlet. I plan to test both of them out on our patio the next cold nite we get. Glad to read that the lack of insulation on the bottom was not a problem for you. I tend to roll with my bag, rather than inside my bag, so I am a little worried about how this system will work out for me.” 10:37:17 AM 11/02/11
