Jimmy San,

you're making me feel guilty. my daughter wants to come (mentioned it again this morning). i'm being selfish and wanted to do the big hike...don't think she's ready for that one. she went with me to BSF in March and did ok...but we had to bail on saturday afternoon. how old are your kids?

No tents needed baby! Going buku light for this trip. Taking advantage of the car spot by leaving some extra water (so I don't need the filter), keeping my dinner cold for Saturday (hot dogs) and extra drinky poo”

kids are 8 and 12. i badly want to do the marathon hike as well but that's the thing about backpacking... there is always another trip. i guess i have a case of the guilts because of my plans to hike the entire JMT in august and my grand canyon week in march. if you wish you may bring your daughter and she would be welcome to hike with my two boys and I.

thanks for the offer. i will talk with her tonight.

are you doing the rim to rim in the grand canyon? i want to do that in september, but it's looking very costly. i'm jealous of your future plans...i'd be satisfied with a week in the smoky mountains...someone needs to organize that trip!

March Grand Canyon trip: http://thebackpacker.com/trips/trip/1073.php (not rim to rim)

This next year I have worked out a trip plan to hike the Nankoweap Trail on the North Rim but I have not yet started to recruit victims... err... hikers for that trip.

I could go for a week in the Smokies but I am running out of contiguous vacation time this year with the time I have saved up for the JMT and what I already cashed in for the Grand Canyon.

If you want a good long-weekend trip consider my trip this October: http://thebackpacker.com/trips/trip/1209.php

I am planning to hike the "buttkisser" hike with my two sons at a lazy pace. After we have set up camp and done "chores" (read I give them some lessons in setting up a camp, getting water, etc) we will dayhike on the McCoy Hollow trail out-and-back assuming they are willing and not too tired. Anyway, like I said, your daughter is more than welcome to join us. My sons are very well behaved and kind spirited young gentlemen... so they won't fit in at all with this rabble... but you can rest assured she would enjoy their company.

how many cars will we be setting at the PL@temple hill?

Good question Jerbear.

Jim and I thought we should locate more cars here, rather than at the trailhead we did last year.

I don't know how many we will have total, probably something like 15.

do you mean march of 2008? i will strongly consider this trip. about running out of vacation...quit! there, I solved that for you.

i was a good mom, and asked my daughter when i picked her up. apparently, she had a better offer for a weekend with her best friend...may change. now, my feelings are hurt. (women, you can't please us!)

see you in four days! by the way, i have a suburban and can shuttle or whatever.

I should be there by noon, Friday. If I can get tickets, I might consider the cave tour on Friday.

the grand canyon hike was march of 2007 (last month). the north rim trip i am planning/dreaming/thinking about is in 2008.

oh, yeah, and i agree we should put as many cars at temple hill. wounded knee and i swapped emails about this a few weeks ago. all that shuttling back and forth is tedious on the last day and it will be easy enough to place them on Saturday.

Question....
Is it possible to sneak in on Friday nights camp about midnight? Where is Friday's camp in relation to the where we plan to shuttle?

I'm thinking I will park at the designated shuttle parking because I have a long drive and need to get back ASAP. I have a small car but will take all I can fit back to the other parking lot on my way (one trip). I plan to do as little milage on Sunday as possible for this reason.

Seems like my options are very late Friday night or 9:30 Saturday morning at the shuttle lot.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks guys.... and gals :-)

I think everyone will be in at some point on Friday.

Pinkfleece - if you need to leave quick on Sunday morning, we will only be about 1 mile from the Temple Hill trailhead, or at least some of will. Keep in mind that the Green River ferry doesn't not open until 9AM. If you need to leave earlier than this, you will need to take back roads to get back to 65.
