Hey pitts, I have some freeze dried dark chocolate cheese cake---serves two, your kids can have it if they want. I am trying not to eat stuff like that and my husband wont eat it so I would rather give it to someone who would.

better they gain exposure to this stuff (well some of it) under my supervision around my friends and other people i trust than the alternatives. they are good boys and i trust their character. most boys and girls raised in the 'burbs are basically stunted like a plant grown in the dark. i am a scoutleader and i have firsthand experience with this.

my one regret is that i can't take my daughter with me, but i promised her a 1:1 backpacking trip next month... she seemed to be very pleased with this offer.

i gave my youngest some starter gear (he is 8) and man did his eyes light up with i gave him the alcohol stove cookset. that kid will start out lighter than most people do after backpacking 10 years. lots of supervision here but the experience of doing this at 8 will prove invaluable. imagine starting to practice this stuff when you were 8 and where you would be today?

my oldest son has a pocket rocket and MSR titan kettle. he got it for his birthday. i have been sneaking in good gear for birthdays.

also, i am starting them off on ridgerests and not inflatable pads... i find that kids can sleep anywhere, unlike their old man. i learned how to sleep on closed-cell foam but it took me forever once i got hooked on an inflatable pad.

they want to share a tent so they will sleep in a two-person virga tarptent carried by my oldest. dad will be cowboy camping as usual with a tarp option.

i am giving my oldest a set of trekking poles for this trip (he doesn't know this yet) and my goal is to teach him how to properly use them among other things. i expect many trips, falls, and other forms of damage.

Good lord! I turn my back for a couple hours and everyone is talking about my pole.

Y'all are just jealous of what I can accomplish with one natural "big stick" when it takes most hikers out there two manufactured poles to get half that much done!

BTW if someone has an extra kilt I'd wear it. 34 - 36 waist
I'll take request on weather it is worn "regiment" or not. ;-)

Thrifty!!!
Hey TH!!
We could share a site and that would be fine!!

Your getting there early, so why don’t you just pick a site out and I will pay you for half when we arrive. You can leave a note at sites 72,73 (If your not gonna be there) and Me and Guitar Gal will set up later we get your note. You could also just call my cell phone and tell me where the site is. Whatever works for you. I will buy a couple of bundles of wood to use at both the party sites (72,73) and one for the sleeping site (That’s the site your gonna pick out) I have updated my email address on my profile, so you can send for my cell number if that works for you

See ya later.

I got a prototype of that stove that Coyote had at The Adena Trace Shamrock thing. I found the aluminum bottles at bar here Saturday night and put it together Sunday AM. The thing is much easier to make than the Pop Can stove and works real well. I will bring it so you can see. The bottles are the hard thing to find, as they are commemorative sport Budlight bottles. I paid $3.50 for one (That was with the beer in it) The aluminum in them is much higher quality than your standard pop can and can be formed easily with out tearing. You seal the two together by roll forming the top. I used a pair of pliers to do this and it looks homemade. I think a tool can be made to do that operation much better. I will be working on the design for that later on
See ya later.

I have an extra, but it's too big for me so it would definitely be too big for you, beanpole. ;) Plus, it's a girl's kilt.

I do get to break in my new kilt this weekend, however. :) It's going to get a lot of use this year.

windigrrl

Stomper will be there around noon or so.

Thrifty - no sweat. The group sites are on the other side of the river, so you need the ferry to cross. For those coming late, they will not be able to get across.

That plus we need to turn in our permits in the morning.
