I'm trying to talk my hubby into coming up, at least for the Friday night campout. Course once he meets everyone, he may never let me hang out with you guys again! Ha! Ha!

What time you guys getting in Thrifty?

This is shaping up to me a MAMMOTH hike.

Looking like we may need 3 backcountry sites.

For those that went last year and stayed by the lake, how was the site? Can it hold 7 to 8 tents? I scouted the campsite at second creek and it was pretty big. This site is up trail about 1.5 miles, maybe less and perched up on a knoll above the creek. We will probably use this site as a spillover if need be.

we'll be going down (hee hee) early friday morning...we'll probably tool around the area doing touristy stuff, hit the cave, grab some lunch etc.

Okay, can you obtain one of the backcountry permits then? It's free and all you need to do is...

Go to the visitor's center and tell someone at the main desk that you need to book a backcountry site for Saturday evening. I believe you need to show them your drivers licence or at least your plate number off your car. Tell them that you are part of a larger group (arriving throughout the day). They should let you keep the permit so we can fill it up with 6 other people that are hiking.

I have Stomper getting one as well.

You need to get one of the sites at First Creek Lake. There are 2 sites there. You get one and Stomper gets the other.

If we need a third site, Jim or I will get Second creek when we arrive.

Was it tight with 7, tents on top of each other, or did you have extra space?

It was pretty good. Probably could've squeezed one or two more in. Birch and I had the taj mahal tarp set up, we could bring a samller shelter this time. But then again, SC was simply rolled up in her tarp on the ground (hehehehe) so she took up less space than a tent would.

*****DISCLAIMER*****
Since I have now been apointed the trip leader of this trip, please watch your step on the trails. Portions of the trail we will be hiking will be rocky, steep and down right muddy. Hike at a pace you are comfortable with and take your time. If you don't think you can make a longer trip, elect to hike the shorter distance. Also, we are leaving a automobile parked about one mile from where we will camp Saturday evening. If you want to make this a dayhike, you are welcome to leave everything in the car and pick it up as you pass. If you would like to leave heavy items in the car and hike with a lighter pack, you are welcome to do that as well.

Again, please hike at a pace you are comfortable with. If you cannot keep up with faster hikers, SLOW DOWN for god's sake and hike with someone slower. If you hike really slow, the trails are marked well, we will keep a light on for you.

I am not sleeping in Birch and Sass with any of you at the headquarters campground on Saturday evening.

sure, you guys can spoon.

HA! I just talked to Birch, Told him you wanted to spoon w/ him. He replied, "Sure, I'll spoon with Brian; I'm a good spooner, just ask Nigal."

Nigal and Birch are not allowed to "camp" together anymore.
