Snowshoe advice for Yosemite area
Hello,
My wife and I are going to try snowshoeing this December in the Yosemite area. We enjoyed Hikin Mike's posted photo album, and can't wait to go. We are both in good shape and enjoy dry backpacking in Joshua Tree NP. Here are my questions:

1) What is a good route to Glacier Point in the winter? I'd love to snowshoe there and enjoy the views of Half Dome.

2) We have acquired some old school snowshoes, do we need to practice any special technique before we go?

3) Do you recommend any other snowshoe or hiking trails in the Yosemite or Groveland areas in December?

4) What are your favorite type of snacks to take along on the trail? : )

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hey DZ,
Shoeshoeing is great in Yosemite. The route to look at out to Glacier Point starts at Badger Pass (its plowed to that point); then out to Dewey Point where the views are grand. Then make the climb down the velley wall to Highway 120; hitchhike to Curry Village; then up the Mist Trail to to the trail to Hevada Falls where there is a spur trail to Glacier Point. There's alot of animal droppings along the trail to eat. Have fun!!!

If you hike the route mentioned above you better have eaten your chunky soup! It is the Panorama trail from Glacer Point to Nevada falls. I have never been on this trail during winter months. Dewey point is a great snowshoe trip.

Smoked baby clams and Ritz crackers.

I second Dewey Point - beautiful in the Winter overlooking El Capitan
