"This is not what the GOP needed this late in the race as Reverend Ted Haggard has resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals. The cause? It has been reported by various news agencies that he had a sexual affair with a gay lover and some reported of him hiring male prostitutes. This comes as he was campaigning against, of all things, gay marriage. A male prostitute has claimed that Haggard has paid for sex once a month for at least three years. Haggard is the leader of a 30 million coalition of Christian conservatives. Haggard issued a written statement that read, “I am voluntarily stepping aside from leadership so that the overseer process can be allowed to proceed with integrity, I hope to be able to discuss this matter in more detail at a later date. In the interim, I will seek both spiritual advice and guidance.””
